The Hybrid case is listed with the 150 Nosler Accu-Bond at 3100+fps at 100 yds, The lighter bullet is brass cased and runs at "normal" pressures.Thr new Army round has a steel case head an runs at a much higher pressure than a brass case can handle. Maybe it can an maybe it can't. We should have some real data in the near future.

Next generation squad weapon program. The army just announced that sig would be getting a contract to produce thier mcx rifle in sig’s brand new bi-metallic 6.8x51mm cartridge. I’ve read that it’s supposed to run at 85,000psi hence the need for a steel case head. What is NGSW? You mean NSWDG?
They have a separate civilian load because the projectiles were supplied by the army. The case, though the same dimensions is also different from the one they are selling to the army. The Hybrid case is listed with the 150 Nosler Accu-Bond at 3100+fps at 100 yds, The lighter bullet is brass cased and runs at "normal" pressures.
Yeah, it does seem pretty weird.Nothing that is normal will do that.
It was on sale at the Sig web site $84.95 but is out of stock now. The base is stainless with a brass body. They have a separate civilian load because the projectiles were supplied by the army. The case, though the same dimensions is also different from the one they are selling to the army.
I’m not sure that the bimetallic case will even be available anytime soon, and I think it’s because certain domestic groups are also on the list of near peers.
Oh wow, I wouldn’t have guessed. It was on sale at the Sig web site $84.95 but is out of stock now. The base is stainless with a brass body.
Yep you either need a impossibly high speed and/or impossibly high BCThat requirement, 2500fps at 1000 yards from a 308 Caliber bullet cannot be accomplished with brass cases and current commercial rifles techonolgies
I did the math
Requirements:
Caliber: 308
2500 fps at 1000 yards
Possible solution:
Bullet 230gr A-tip, G7 BC 0.414
MV 3700 fps or more
Case Max pressure 85K PSI !!!!
Case Capacity 128gr of H20 or more
Barrel length 40-43"
Muzzle energy 6900 ft*lb
Good luck with your rifle
BTW, your friend is a moron
Do you use software for this? That’s an impressive calculation. That requirement, 2500fps at 1000 yards from a 308 Caliber bullet cannot be accomplished with brass cases and current commercial rifles techonolgies

I have read a few good articles on the new rifle and ammo on the internet. This may be bad information or I might have bought into the hype, but this Ngsw rifle that the army is looking to adopt is supposed to be able to do that. My knee jerk reaction was bs but I thought maybe there was some kind of exotic crap going on that I hadn’t heard of.
I guess you can’t trust every random yahoo at work who claims to be a “gun guy.”
