SavageShooters Forum Shutting Down

I have been working a 100/200/300yd range 2 of 5 days every week for the past 4+ years and I still see Savage at least 2 to 1 on our benches. Then followed by Ruger then Tikka, Remington. This is easy as you cannot miss the barrel nut.
It’s been a while, maybe two years (? ) , but when I would go to our state range on a regular basis, guys would bring out their deer rifles just before gun season to check zeros and get in a little practice. Far and away the majority were Savage, usually Axis line.

Not yet. Bergara by my guess would be 4th or 5th.

From my view it seems Savage, AR15, Ruger.
You actually see more Savage guns than AR platforms at your range? At my private club range AR platform and chassis guns outnumber “ traditional “ rifles at least 6 or 7 to 1.

Guess I misrepresented. One the rifle ranges 25-100yds breaks down to long rifles and AR's. Probably about evenly divided. Aside from the Savage rifles the AR's outnumber all other brands and types. Don't see as many AR's on the 200/300 range.

Walley World really facilitated that direction. They would have a full
line up of Axis models with scopes for cheap. It did put a hurting on
the LGS's. Sportsmen's Warehouse would also be clearing off the racks
prior to the Pa deer season. Surprised me but I was told by the guy's
at Sportsmens Warehouse, one of their biggest sellers is the Axis in
350 Legend. They will order in a boat load and drop the price for the
period, $25 bucks off each rifle.

For a good long time, all my barrels I shouldered.. No nut. The new rig
this year, I went back to a nut, but even then, it's special and my own
way at looking at things. It has a nut but still shouldered in a traditional
manner. But none of my work is traditional. Where's the fun in that ?? LOL
Among many other things, Fuj is a honest man. Someday there will be breaking news in the rifle game and we will say, Fuj was doing that 15 years ago.

At my last job there were a few guys that I’d call active casual shooters, hit the range every month or two types. Anyway they were all hot on the Axis and honestly who can blame them? For a few hundred bucks they’d get a 6.5 Creedmoor that shoots way better than anything I had for a long time growing up. I met them at the range one time and they acted like I was Mr money bags shooting 700’s :D

All true. A helluva lot more “ Poors “ ( Snipers Hide derogatory term for anyone not well heeled enough to have at the minimum one custom, component comprised, multi thousand dollar , can shoot two counties over , rig ) than the uber competitive, condescending ,eccentric cyber bullies encountered too frequently on some sites.

The gear-obsessed 30 something outdoor yuppies have invaded everything not just shooting. They grew up on the internet and are creatures of social media.

I have only owned Savages since right before Covid-19 hit. So while I know of the site I was never on the site.

It does make me sad to see any gun related site fade away but it is the nature of things.

I'm another who was active on the Savage forum, but, lurk in here a lot. I'm not surprised that forum is closing. More surprised at how many years it was kept running. A forum is really difficult to keep up and running, not even mentioning cost.

If not for a Walmart special Axis (varmint barrel .223) I would probably not be shooting rifles much. I bought it as a cheap plinker. It was accurate enough to hook me into the game a bit. I added a 12 Varmint to the stable and have fun with it. Not a great shot and still on a budget but I get by. Still shoot just for fun. I am glad that Fuj' and a few others were on there to help us neophytes get better.

You have about 6 weeks to search the site to glean any information You can before they close down. Maybe answer some questions You may have about Your Savages. I recommend We all take advantage of this time.

Charlie, always enjoyed and benefited from your comments relative to Savage rifles. Hope you’ll stay active through this or another forum. Always knew I could get good info from you and others ( some of whom were banned ! ) on Savage Shooters.

Mr Baker did say that he would have the information available on his Facebook account.

Trouble with trying to download parts (which I have started doing) is that some of the best 'gems' are hidden in various threads, sometimes as off topic 'drifts'. Tough to find all those.

Maybe if enough of us pitched in we could have it moved here if we knew the cost and had a fund raiser. A lot of you seemed really concerned. I would help and I just don't like things of value thrown away.

Even if it were pared down to only the FAQ and Savage/Stevens Firearms Boards, that would save a great deal of old and obscure info. Maybe as a "Read Only".

Sadly this is posted:

Notice: Effective 8/30/2025 I will be shutting down this site. After 24 years of operation the time has come. This is a decision I have been facing for the past 6-8 years now as both user interaction and revenues have continued to decline, and keeping it open just doesn't make fiscal sense at this point.
Dates to Note:

6/1/2025 - Paid Subscriptions and New User Registrations have been disabled

8/1/2025 - New posts in the classifieds will be disabled

8/30/2025 - This site will shut down and no longer be accessible
