I really don’t see the point. They can be discussed just like anything else.

Certainly. However having a group out there that are now ‘site less’ would surely be enticing.
Does adding another section require an injection of funds? Would these funds be offset by the increase in members?
Of course I have NO idea but it seems a great deal of the administration time is trying to control the classified section. Being scammers or outright crooks. Phony names, addresses, non existent products etc.
Then again being outshot with your many thousand dollar action by a guy with a savage action may not appeal to some.

My post was more of a general commentary about forums getting spread too thin not so much about whether AS should take them or not. If the Boss wants to add them here I think they’d be a good addition.

It's just another format. Just start a thread whenever. That's all that's needed.

Absolutely!! I think it would be a great addition to this site, but since it would require a lot of work for the Boss, I think it should be restricted to members that financially contribute. That may enable him to hire some help....

In my view that is not the issue. There is a lot of old information gathered there that will be forever lost. Stuff that just can't be easily found of replicated. With no archive as suggested it will be a shame to all past and future Savage users.

Nowhere was it said or suggested that Savage issues cannot be discussed here, now.

I'm a long time member at Savage shooters and that might be the problem, you can only discuss the same gun for so long. With new shooter turning to ARs and long range shooting Sav isn't at the cutting edge. Nobody is making Savage BA clones for precision shooting. Those shooting savages in any form of competition are an anomaly. Savages just aren't that much interesting.

That said I have six coyote and varmint hunting rifles built on Savage actions, my practice rifle is a Sav 22lr and I used to collect 1899 and 99 lever until I could no longer shoot open sights sold off all that needed to be D&T'd.

I still spent more time here than at SS.

When posts sit at the top of the page for months with no activity it is time to close the doors.

I don't think there is going to be a lot lost closing the doors there, almost anything you want to know about Savages can be answered here or elsewhere.

Your very last statement, while certainly true, doesn’t take into consideration the fact that in some ( many ? ) cases you have to put up with and wade through the seemingly obligatory Savage bashing in order to ferret out the information you were seeking. That’s provided someone bothers to address your issue/ question in a semi-civil fashion at all. Didn’t have that on Savage Shooters for obvious reasons.

It was a similar case with Specialty Pistols. 20 years of amazing information accumulated, specific to a niche interest, all gone now. The amount of wealthy knowledge will never again be compiled. Mike had no desire to archive the site, sadly.

Maybe the forum boss could add a "Savage Shooters" forum here to make up for the loss. Pull those guys over here. Wouldn't offend me any!! I love my Savage customers. Some of the small groups sent to me were from guys shooting Savages.

True that about numbers of Savage shooters. Recently I was in our local PSA outlet which has an extensive gun department with most, if not all, of the commonly encountered brands. Bergara, Tikka, Remington, etc, etc. I asked one of the staff, setting aside for a moment the ubiquitous AR platforms, what brand of rifles was their biggest seller. He didn’t draw a breath before saying , “ Savage”. No doubt price point has a lot to do with that, but Savage puts the average Joe hunter and shooter in the game. I’d wager that the tonnage of meat that Axis and 110 rifles have put on tables through the years would be considerable!

Jim stated that he has all the articles, how-to’s, etc backed up on discs so they won’t be lost. He mentions he may open it as a read only. He is also leaving the Savageshooters Facebook page up and running, so hopefully the newcomers with questions can get their answer that way.

Although I have a bunch of Savages and have been on that site for 20yrs, I don’t think all that info should be absorbed here, unless it was as read only articles on the main page. Anyone needing a discussion about an issue is already free to to do on this site as it sits, and once a section is created for one manufacturer there would be complaints about why not the others. And rightfully so. This site is perfectly fine as it is. I do however hope a lot of the members there that aren’t already here will migrate on over here.
In today’s status over there there’s really only a handful who even participate on the regular. With the exception of a few really good threads from regular members working on their stuff(Fuj for example), the site has mostly become just new members coming in and asking a question. One that could’ve easily been found by doing a quick search on the site. Some respond till they get their answer and are never heard from again. And some never even return to get the help they asked for.

I have been working a 100/200/300yd range 2 of 5 days every week for the past 4+ years and I still see Savage at least 2 to 1 on our benches. Then followed by Ruger then Tikka, Remington. This is easy as you cannot miss the barrel nut.

Good, I’m not around it much but I was guessing Bergara,Tikka, Howa, and Browning were edging the Savage market out.

Not yet. Bergara by my guess would be 4th or 5th.

From my view it seems Savage, AR15, Ruger.

For a good long time, all my barrels I shouldered.. No nut. The new rig
this year, I went back to a nut, but even then, it's special and my own
way at looking at things. It has a nut but still shouldered in a traditional
manner. But none of my work is traditional. Where's the fun in that ?? LOL
