Rich Young Man at Gun Store

I really don't care how he got there and what he bought while there. Maybe I have more envy than I think. I wish I could go to the gun store in a nice ride like that and leave with a bunch of new stuff. But my family wasn't rich, not really even well off. Dad sold oil field stuff, Granddad was a farmer. I was a welder/maintenance man. Dirty hands everyday. He's probably a good kid born into a wealthy family. Not for me to pass judgement on him or anyone. Just thought it amusing.

Must be nice to have that silver spoon.
It's this kind of jealousy that is driving our country toward socialism.

I too once shared that attitude. Especially after I learned that the man next to me was paying more in taxes than I grossed. A wise old man listened to me rant and said, instead of complaining, go figure out how to make that for yourself. It took many years of effort but I did just that and lots more.

Might have been a little envy there. But not a lot. I joked with the store owner, said I couldn't even afford the lug nuts let alone the car. Heck I complained about buying a scope base screw for $2.00. LOL I'm to old for envy anymore. Maybe more envious that I was never well enough off to buy my kid something like that. But on the flip side, I'm not sure I would have bought him the car even if I could afforded it. LOL, he'd probably just wreck it just like all his other cars. No better than he drives a tank would be a smarter vehicle for him.
you pet the dog while there?? lol
that dog is more spoiled than anyone!!

The ability to collect stuff doesn’t matter regardless of income level. How much you make or how you got it has no bearing on me. I’ve been that way for a long time. Open heart surgery 11days ago just reinforces what is really important in the big scheme of things. I’m grateful and thankful everyday for the little things. I hope I remember that as I heal.

Hope you have a real good rehab.

My first car, other than driving the family car, was a ‘72 El Camino with a 327 in it. Seems like I paid around $800 bucks for it.

"Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity."

Much of Ecclesiastes being the writings of Solomon, could essentially be summarized as "You come into the world naked You go out of this world naked and you don't get to take any of your stuff with you"

Don't think it matters all that much. Rich or not, most kids are pretty clueless when it comes to functioning in society. It's a rare treat to find one that does.

Very true. I noticed how many people I see working within our company that cannot do any amount of critical thinking, much less solve an entry level problem. This goes for people that are in their 60's as well, so that old saying about the newer generation that does not know anything does not always apply. I feel like it is shameful on our major Universities that spits out an Engineering Student which comes to work for us, and after a six month hands on orientation period cannot make an informative 1 hour presentation of how our processes work. One out of every four fall victim to this, and you will have one of them that actually shines. Where I see the failure is the fact that they "never learned how to learn".

I made a promise to myself that my now 20 year old kid would not fall victim to that, and if he did not want to pursue a college degree, he would have some life skills like mechanics, welding, home repairs, electricity etc. So far he has made me proud.

My brother came into town and we were able to secure a tee time at Cedar Ridge country club here in Tulsa. I didn't realize that Cedar Ridge was essentially almost on the level with Southern Hills. So, when we arrived the parking lot was filled with vehicles that were usually 100K plus. And the patrons were certainly above the pay scale of the average Tulsan.

The course was the most immaculate golf course I've ever been on, and I've been on some pretty nice golf courses. The people were very friendly, and the staff was incredibly attentive, I could certainly see why people would like a nice country club. What used to be the same attention you got at a public course is now only reserved for country club patrons. Everyone was very polite and all of the other members were incredibly nice and welcoming. That was the kind of a shock.

That all being said, I didn't have any more fun playing that course that I have had in the past playing courses that cost me $13. That were certainly not as nice. In fact, there was so much pressure to have a good time I don't think I had a good time.

After the round we went to the little club and had some drinks and ate peanuts and talked. Everyone knew each other and there was a lot of cutting up among the members. My brother told me that maybe I should join a club. I told him that I was never willing to do the things that it would take to make that kind of money. I've been around people that make a lot of money, and almost without exception, they will do things that I will not do. Not 100%, but the moral compass becomes very skewed when large amounts of money are involved. And for the most part, most of the rich people I know are not happy. They seem to be almost tormented. It takes so much to maintain that lifestyle.
