I’ve got a couple of them that Chad did. They’re top notch no doubt. I guess I don’t know what tier mine are, I just assumed my threads were opened up. Shows what I know.
Or got overwhelmed and scared off from all the comments, LOLI think this is another one of those threads that we end up talking to ourselves and the OP just posted it and bailed.
Yes, he was/is maybe looking for something 'basic'. A Shilen or Douglas barrel, Timney trigger, a H-S Precision stock, while using a SA 700 found at 'best price'. Wasn't planning a full 'true job' with bushed firing pin, side bolt release, and timed bolt handle. Just a 'basic' varmint rig to take to the field. Maybe, that was/is all he's looking for. Don't know, as he seems to have 'bailed'.......Or got overwhelmed and scared off from all the comments, LOL
This will be a coyote and varmint shooter, so want to keep the cost down on my first one.
I have several 700s I’ve built that do very well. I did true the actions, time ignition etc…. I agree with others that if the extra $500 is not an issue, go with one of the clones. Kelbly, Mac, Kuagar etc…. I have a couple in Boyd’s laminated stocks I use for prairie dogs. With a little work adding pullers and bedding, they work just fine and are dirt cheap. I think it was called the Varmint pro but the name may have changed.OK, let me start off by saying I'm an AR guy and have pieced together quite a few. I'm venturing into putting my first bolt gun together. I have the general knowledge on how to, but may still have questions. Wanting to do a 22 Creedmoor in a 700 action for my first. Give me guidance on where to start. Suggestions on where to find a used action and bolt? I have a barrel picked out so I'm good there. This will be a coyote and varmint shooter, so want to keep the cost down on my first one.
