Remington 1100 won't load a round after first firing

A note from my friend. He will go further with it but has a cow with a hoof problem and can't get back to town until later today to go further.

I have started by pulling the magazine spring. The magazine is very clean and smooth. The spring is of .042 diameter wire and measures 22 inches in the relaxed state.

I'm am following Coyotefurharvest suggestions.

safety on, chamber empty, round in the magazine. Pulled the bolt handle all the way back until it stops. I see the round release from the magazine and it strikes the carrier release with what seems like sufficient force. But the bolt does not chamber. However if I depress the loading ramp release it lifts the round and chambers it just fine.

I guess this indicates an issue with the release tab at the rear of the lift carrier?

#28 in the schematic. It could also be a weak magazine spring, not letting the shell hit it hard enough. Or rust and crud and who knows what in the mag tube. Another culprit for these malfunctions are a plastic magazine follower that gets knackered up and fouls the interceptor latch. Replace with a Brownells aluminum one. Are the shell latches loose/worn? As the bolt reaches full rearward position the next shell should release from the mag with a bit of force.

Here is a pic, of mine. Hasn't been cleaned since pheasant season ended. If I pull the bolt slowly, hold the bolt back. As soon as I let go of the bolt it chambers the shell(2 3/4") 3" gun. So the shell hit the tab and released the dog. Only my hand keeps bolt from closing. Pull back normal and let go round chambers.IMG_20240223_145116173_HDR.jpg

Ken, is this the one that Thom mentioned?

Thom is leaving the ranch soon. He and the vet got the cow up and healing. He said he would look at the video when he got home and had the bigger TV screen. He is a retired engineering person and is mechanically inclined. He has a lot of common sense and is grateful for everybody's help.

Total brain fart extreme! Forgot the ABSOLUTE FIRST THING to check when the 1100 no workee.
Make sure the O ring is not wrecked, and the piston and piston seal are not turned around backwards!!
Happens all the time. "Me and my Brother in Law cleaned it up real good, and now it wont eject."

He replaced all of that, but!

After fooling with it the only ammo that functioned is pictured. Our old HS classsmate that gave it to him will get it back.

It was a POS when Thom got it and now after stripping it and refinishing the stock it looks good.

The fact it functions with that ammo implies a totally different issue or direction to look. It appears the bbl has been cut down which might necessitate slightly opening the gas port(s). That's assuming it's properly assembled...o-ring and gas piston assembly in particular is what I'd check first. Probably fixable though. If it was given to him, I'd give him his money back, at least. Lol! Nice wood.

Mike, it was a freebee. I've asked to purchase it from my friend that gave it to Thom.

If for some reason someone has the trigger group out and snaps the trigger, the carrier latch will break.
But it feeds a specific ammo without issue...Still?

Frankly, this is why I haven't tried to be of much help. It's tough to fix them 1000 miles away and the info is not ever as clear as holding it in your hands. IOW, while we all mean well, it's guessing without seeing the gun, in many cases.
