Remington 1100 won't load a round after first firing

I have an email into the friend that gave it to Thom. I've asked for the opportunity to own it. The receiver is pitted, but it may be a good self defense weapon. I do have an extra barrel that I can put on it.
I will let you know. Thanks for all the interest and help.

Many moons ago had an 1100 with some sort of loading issue and IIRC, it was the interceptor latch. It was held by a soldered pin in the receiver housing. The pin broke and the part fell out. I sent it back to Remington and they repaired it. At the time Midway was selling that part so I presumed it must have been a common repair job. A look in the receiver will say if that part, the pin and clip are gone.

Slug rounds have a harder recoil feel than shot loads of the same weight. Combine that with the slower velocity of the defender load and it would point to a gas system issue. My first 1100 was purchased new right when steel shot became mandatory. Still have it, a 3" special purpose. It would not cycle factory steel loads. The special purpose has the mat black finish. I used drill bits to incrementally open up the gas port until 3" steel and heavy 2 3/4" 1 1/4 oz lead would run. I ended up 11% larger gas port. Check o ring, seal, condition and assembly. I also have a 2 3/4" 1100, special field(shorter barrel) if you need me to measure gas port I can.
