Rem mdl 7 custom build?

Oh yeah, love me a lil' Model Seven! My 1st bolt gun was a lil' Seven in .308, and they just grew on me from there...

My GreTan .17Predator is on a Seven, as well as my K&K 6x45AI and 6.5 SAUM 4s. All feed out of AICS based mags, via PT&G DBM. Runnin' a DBM system with a single feed AICS magazine really opens up the potential for the lil' Seven. The sharp shouldered 6x45AI and short necked .17Predator (.17-223 Imp.) both feed like butter!

I believe Badger & CDI also offer DBMs for Sevens, as well. And CDI will inlet your stock for their DBM, just send them your stock when you purchase!

Several chassis companies now cater to the Seven.

And, as stated above, McMillan & Manners will inlet for a Seven. When PT&G finally came out with their Model Seven DBM, I sent one to McMillan, so they could write an inlet program for a GameScout I had on order. Came back, perfect! And now they have the program on file... :)

As for some specifics, on the SAUM:
This action was originally a .300SAUM, so the ramp itself is already 'tubbed out' for those short,fat cases. I did ask my 'smith to notch the feed ramp, so that I could run 130s & 140s in the 2.940" max. range. Same as the other two, this one feeds like a dream!

Have heard about enlarging the rear action screw, but all mine have the small screw. A good bedding job seems to work fine, I use MarineTex for my home jobs...

I like the 6x45mm, but I already have a 20cal barrel for a 20 vartarg, unless you are after larger game.
 
A fast twist 6x45 (or 6x45AI) will cover you, from p-dogs to deer, on a budget of ~25gr powder, per pop.

80gr TTSX in my 6x45AI Model Seven, sweet little deer schwacker! True to their heritage, the (T)TSX makes two nice holes, even @ modest ~2900 launch speeds...

The 6x45 is one heck of a versitle little cartridge. Perfect for everything from ground squirrels to deer. And as simple to form and load as they get with a never ending supply of brass.

So funny to hear the post game interview from a guy used to carrying a .30-06 sees one crumple in the scope, courtesy of the lil' 6x45AI! And a Model Seven sure makes a nice platform for one...

I had a 308 bolt face Model 7 action so decided to build my daughter a custom rifle. I used a Manners T3 and it has a Bartlein RV contour 26" barrel in 6.5×47L. I ended up using a Timney CE trigger as there were no Jewell's to be found at the time. It feeds perfectly with the factory BM and is every bit as accurate as any of my custom actions, but that is because of great parts/chamber job and a great cartridge.

I would say you need to shop around for parts, but an example would be MGW makes a HD mount, PT&G now makes a DBM that uses AICS mags, Manners inlets for it, and and and.

Go for it.

Off topic somewhat, the CE trigger is not my first choice for this action. I had to play with that thing for quite a while to get the "junk" out of it. It isn't bad now at 9 ounces, but it ain't a Jewell and we know it every time we have another rifle on the rest. Everything else I own has a Jewell. I'm to rifle poor to go to a Bix.....

Drilling and tapping the rear screw to 1/4-28 creates a new problem in that the design of the factory trigger guard does not leave enough metal around the screw hole for the larger screw. The factory trigger guard also does not allow clearance for a Jewell or Bix n Andy trigger and is difficult to modify because the plunger and spring recess occupy the space needed for clearance. These issues are not insurmountable, they just give your gunsmith a headache. Enlarging the rear screw to a #10 would make it easier to use the factory bottom metal. using an ADL style inlet is one solution. Hopefully, an aftermarket floorplate assembly will become available to solve these issues. Defiance sells a bottom metal assembly for use with their Model 7 length action with a 1/4" rear hole, but it still does not clear a Jewell trigger and it has a different inlet that does not come close to matching the factory inletting.

We converted several dozen Model Sevens to this trigger guard set up by using custom trigger guards and then modified the stocks and trigger guard for the Jewell. This is not rocket science, just everyday gunsmithing to solve little problems. Tom Manners has the stocks made for this set up if ask. If you're curious as to the cost of making one of these up for fun and competition practice, GAP will help with those numbers.

Of course. All gunsmithing issues are solvable. Yes, these are small issues for skilled gunsmiths and machinists. My answer was intended to forewarn the do it yourself guys that there is more to it than just drilling and re-tapping the rear tang and enlarging the rear hole in the factory floorplate. The factory floorplate is junk anyway, so a new floorplate in steel is an improvement in itself.
