Reliable Source for Used Gun Values?

Where do ya'll go to find prices on used rifles, shotguns, and pistols? I've searched a bit on gun broker, but was wandering if there was a better place? Thanks, Durward

Pawn shop, gun store, gunbroker.

One thing I have done in the past is have a widow, or someone that needed to sell a gun, take it down to a shop and ask how much would they give for it. Typically you can add 30% to that and it will be the fair value. They then decided if they wanted to sell it themselves or let the shop purchase it.

You can typically Google for used model "xxx" and get some hits.

Gunbroker was a great place to buy and sell 10 years ago; but it's become a dealer site run by robots. If you're looking for used dealer prices they'll be pretty uniform and accurate there. They still have an occasional gem, but few and far between.

The most accurate pricing from individuals is on the firearms forums classifieds. There are more bargains to be found there. I don't think that auctioned firearms present a very accurate pricing; but it's a good way to sell one if you're not sure of the value.

DW,

Pawns work by offering 30% of value, selling for 60% and you being willing to accept the margins. Not saying this is good or bad, it's how the system works. You'll pay for auctions, 10-20% on both buyers and sellers, more if reserves and other extras are added in. Move it now prices are around 50% of current list prices.

Best bet is to find a local or trusted friend, perhaps a family member to handle the disposition. The one time I assisted moving an estate, I ended up accepting 50% of list on ammo, better on firearms.

Gun broker = full blown over priced retail IMO and good % are there from pawn shops advertising as gun shops. ( barf).

Solution: Private completed ( underlined) sales on specialty shooting forums.

truegunvalue.com

We use this site when quoting buying guns. It is a search engine that looks at all the auction gun sites. It does 3 things when a gun is sold:
1. shows the price that someone bought it for.
2. Shows when it was sold.
3. Shows where it sold.

When a gun comes in for sale I look at 10 auctions, record what the gun sold for, average the prices and that tells me the average price that someone will pay for that gun. That then tells me what I will retail it for and of course take my markup percentage off that price.

This does not always work depending on the gun and any extra value that has been added to the gun (scope, engraving, magazines, etc).

It is a good place to start and you can show the seller what someone really paid for his gun.

Pawnshops around here are pretty enthusiastic about their pricing. They will sell a shot out m700 for nearly a new price and people will pay it. This environment is pretty bad for buying anything. The dollar is worth less so everything is higher. An item is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it and I've seen some things go for stupid prices lately. Inflation is just a roundabout way of raising taxes. In this environment nothing is reliable except government stupidity.

The only thing better than GunBroker I can think of is to search for prices that are local to you at shops that have used guns. There is a Blue Book of Gun Values that is in print but only covers so much.
