Digital cameras

Aside from where to get them. I recommend Canon DSLR over Nikon if you want good auto-focus for videos.

Canon T6i / T7i are hard to beat for overall performance. I have Nikon D5500, and it's awesome for pictures, but videos suck because of the loud and haunting Auto-Focus.

I have some experience with digital cameras. I would like to add something much needed to this thread as yet not posted, but of considerable importance. They are all expensive, however, very few digital cameras are waterproof. The first four that I owned were all ruined when they got wet. It boggles my mind that anyone would make a device that costs so much and has so many features, yet quits working and is not worth having repaired if you get caught in the rain. I don't mean dropped overboard, caught in the rain and gotten wet....it kills most of them and it's not long doing it.
Having a bunch of mega pixels and big fancy lenses mean zero when it gets wet and quits working two seconds later.
I very seriously suggest that you look very hard at the reviews in relation to cameras that are waterproof, not water resistant or "weatherproof"...that is a joke, you want waterproof to a published depth.
All that said, I have had very good luck with the Olympus TG4 Tough. I think that one is no longer made, now they have the TG5, but you can maybe find a good used one. Many people prefer the TG4 over the newer TG5. I would also suggest that for $20.00 you get the silicone protective cover for the camera. Short of buying an actual dedicated dive camera, this is the toughest most waterproof camera out there, especially for the money. You can and I do scuba dive with mine{it's good to like 60 feet}, but none of them will take too much being dropped on the hard ground. The silicone protective jacket is cheap, goes on easy, does not affect the operation of the camera and it will help to save it if it gets banged around and/or dropped.
