Redding type s bushing die issues

So I’m in my first rodeo With Redding Bushing dies. Not going well. I keep getting dents in the shoulder. I’ve spent about an hour and dented about 12 case shoulders. I’ve thoroughly cleaned and dried the die, back it off to no bump, then the moment I adjust to get .002 bump it leaves a dent in the shoulder. I know I’m not overly lubricating the case and I’ve cleaned the damn die about 6 times. I’ve inspected the shoulder of the die and can’t find an imperfection that would cause this.

Fellas, I’m out of ideas here. What am I missing? Have I been unknowingly spoiled all these years using Forster dies? If it matters, the case is 6.5 SAUM and I just ordered a whidden bushing die to replace this POS. Or maybe I’m the POS? Lol

Thanks

Pictures would help as well as information about bushing size, neck size of fired case before trying to size. Also, how are you measuring for .002 bump?

Are you adjusting the stem properly , the bushing should be placed with the beveled face down with alittle wiggle room to allow the case to self center? Seems more like a buckle then what happens with over lubing . When sizing is there alot of resistance , see what happens when you don't bring the ram all the way up , at what point does it start to dent the shoulder.

I was running the die without a bushing - just measuring shoulder bump. With a 6.5 Saum I used the .400 aperture on the Forster Datum Dial. Measure cases and came to an average, and shot for .002 bump. Was able get the bump, but I think perhaps a tool mark or some imperfection in the shoulder of the die is present.

I read on the Redding website about some steps to trouble shoot, and performed all of them. It’s not that big of a deal and I’m sure it’ll get handled but I never feel like I have enough time for load dev before Elk Season. Lol

Try less lube. If it has a vent hole make sure its open. If you use too much lube itll migrate up. Milo has the correct answer above

Redding doesn’t do vent holes. Does the dent happen at the same place on each piece of brass or is it random? If it’s random your using too much lube regardless I would switch to imperial wax and put in a bushing long before buying another die. Pictures?
