Primer unavailability and competition shooting

That’s exactly it. They make profit on ammo. If they can’t make ammo, why would they sell components at a smaller margin? I’m younger than most in here but I’ve seen the writing on the wall before this. If you like to shoot, buy more than you think you need. It’s like a safe, buy 2 sizes bigger than you think you’ll need. This shortage will pass, and then for a while they’ll have to have sales on ammo to get it off the shelf. Primers are the funniest part of this; the cheapest part! At $35-45/1000 guys should be stacked deep on them by now. That is unless you just started. 5000 primers should have a guy looking for more. Grab a box every time you swing in the gun shop. It adds up.

I travel a lot for work. Along the way there are several small gun shops I’ve frequented for years. I’ve found primers sitting in the shelves about half the time I stop by and I’ll buy a brick or two and leave some for other people, it adds up. As far as primers go these big national chains are getting hammered, scalpers are probably checking those sources multiple times a day along with people who actually need them.
