Primer comparisons

For anyone who cares, since Federal Gold Medal primers are not available I ran a side by side of Win, WLRs, Fed. GM and CCI BR2s in my .243.

Original load:
115 DTACs
47.5 gr. Reloader 25
Winchester brass
Fed. GM210M primers
2875 fps,today anyway - usually 2950)

CCI BR2s - 2910 with equal accuracy
WLR - 2915 with equal accuracy

Guess I'll stop sweating lack of Fed. components and drop 1/2 grain.

Who carries the Wolf primers have not seen any around here? I am getting fed up with primers costing almost $30.00 per 1k now.

Widener's has Wolf primers $19.00 a thousand. www.wideners.com 1-800-615-3006

I am wondering now about the quality control on Wolf primers. I was shooting the other day and had two fail to fire rounds using Wolf LR primers. I even tried them a second time and they would not fire. I pulled down the loads and took out the primers and they looked OK but just would not fire. I have read of others having fail to fire also but some of those were from people that were not seating the primers correctly. With the Wolf primers you have to make sure they bottom out in the pocket. The anvil sits a little high and if you use a primer seater like the Lee hand primer you can feel when the anvil touches to bottom of the primer pocket and then it needs another bit of pressure to feel the primer cup seat. I may have not gotten those two primers seated right but who knows. But I do get outstanding accuracy with the Wolf primers. I shot my best ever 5 shot group with 155 VLD Berger's in my 30X47 HBR with Wolf primers the other day, .357 outside to outside @ 100 yards. This is with the rifle set up to deer hunt with a heavy cross hair 3-12X56 scope. It could have been a fluke with these two primers that did not fire but I will have to shoot a lot more of them before I use them in my serious deer hunting ammo.
