Powder, primer, and ammo price gouging!

The American consumer is powerful….I was at a local gunsmith Tuesday during lunch time and there were 3 guys there ordering guns on a Tuesday during lunch….

I used to design switching power supplies for a living. They are electronically noisy. I would put in snubbers to reduce the noise, but they dissipated heat and thus reduced efficiency.

You could manage a shortage with rationing or with scalper prices or with both.

The scalpers take the noise out of the system by making an outlet for the excess instantaneous energy, and smooth it over time...just like a snubber.

Thinking that something is unfair is how communism is sold. Your family shares. The market sells.

My problem is not about economics or communism vs capitalism, it’s about greed. We now have a large percentage of shooters with the attitude of “not what I need, but how much I can hoard”. With the prices being paid and the profits being made, this industry is not going away. But these people continue to feed the frenzy, pay whatever is asked and increase demand (artificially) by hoarding. By the way, I’m sure most of these same people would cry foul the loudest when a natural disaster or another terror attack causes gas lines and price gouging. There’s NO difference. An opportunist is an opportunist. And the worst aspect to me is they are not the least bit shameful in admitting and even reveling in their “emergency” stock piles. Pretty pathetic. Just my opinion.

Think of it like buying stock. My average price per round/share is……
I may be one of those you speak of. I will have what I need to shoot

Rationalize how ever you want. If you have what you need, I’m proud for you. If you’re grabbing everything you can regardless of need, then you’re a part of the problem. If you’re proud of an attitude like that, then yes, you’re exactly one I was talking about.

I certainly would not buy more than I need right now. I have bought powder as needed as it came available and payed slightly more than I did a couple of years ago. Inflation has everything 10- 15% more than a year ago and the powder I bought was in line with that. In the last few months I have picked up 18 pounds at 25 to 35 pr pound before shipping & hazmat. I would bet a six pack that by this time next year primers will be in the mid 40's.

Container ships are getting unloaded and primers have been sitting on websites lately for hours and days instead of seconds and minutes

As far as comparing it to stock, stocks can go down as well as up. Anyone investing in gunbroker and gun show prices is either desperate or a fool

It's still true today as it was when my Dad first said this statement to me. Opinions are like butt-holes, everyone has one.

Kind of playing devils advocate, but if you don't know how long this component drought is gonna last how do you know if you have more than you need? I've always been a bit of a packrat and have some bullets I've had for years I gave 5.89 a box of a hundred. Wish I'd have bought a bunch more now in hindsight and I'm not gonna be apologetic about it. Things never get cheaper and I've been through this shortage crap since at least 1993. I've always figured better to have and not need than need and not have. EVERYONE could have been doing the same thing. You don't have to have a pile of money to do it. A box of bullets or some powder several times a month and a guy wouldn't be in a bad position. I'm not gonna feel bad for others being asleep at the wheel, especially if you've been in the game 10 or more years. If you went through the panic when Obama was elected and didn't stock up when you could after he left office, guys like me aren't your problem.

Really our issues aren't with "gougers" or "hoarders" it's with the political party that has aligned itself with the World Economic forum and the Marxists and anti fascist. There has been a lot of legislative and presidential orders that are intentionally restricting production and access to products/supplies that reinforce the Constitution and individual rights. From energy, echips, ammunition components, resource management(use),toilet paper, many others. All part of the plan.

I know this tread goes back a ways but I remember tell everyone, when Obama was Elected the second time to go out and buy primers and powder because this was going to happen. Well I did just that and got enough for friends I shoot with. So I'm going to wait now and see what happens.

I don't see how these stores stay in business with the lack of supplies !
Well one of the ways is seeking suitable substitute components I think. Like N130 or LT30 or IMR 4198 instead of the absolutely unobtainable H4198. Standard primers like the CCI 400 instead of the BR4 and on and on. Once we get fixated on certain powder and primer combos its hard to think outside of the box. Think of it like food...if you can't get beef or pork, you will eat rabbit, squirrel and venison instead. Matter of survival so to speak.

With the 7 calibers that I shoot along with the effort to develop an accurate load, and the effort to build these rifles not to mention the cost of lathes, mills and components a compromise in performance is not acceptable.
