Ammo price gouging

The value of your home does not go up. The value of your money has gone down. Government does not know the value of anything. Your taxes make government what it is.
Sounds like you don't get out much or have any idea of what's going on in this country. Are you kidding me about the value of homes not going up? There is a bidding war going on with houses. It's a seller's market because people are moving out of the cities and into the country. My friend moved down to TN in August and got outbid on 58 houses before he just decided to buy a piece of land.

In most cases it's the fact that the whiners didn't buy any ammo when it was plentiful and at normal market value, that's their choice but then when the fecal matter hits the whirling propeller some of those folks have to TRY to place the blame for their inaction on somebody else.
My suggestion to them, and it's ONLY a suggestion, is to put their big boy pants on, admit to THEMSELVES that THEY made a mistake and learn from it.

We got outbid on a hse or two in 1994. I understand the process. Today it's driven by low interest rates.I worked with menthe bought and sold real estate and move up the ladder on the next one. Someday a hse has to be payed for. Don't you think ?

There have always been scalpers in every market and always will be. Personally I hold them with the same esteem as used car and insurance salesmen. The price gouging going on now in the firearm world is no different than oil companies jacking up gas prices before a hurricane hits, or folks jacking up plywood prices before or after a hurricane or tornado hits.

I'm set on rimfire ammo and stuff to load centerfire but got caught unprepared on pistol stuff. It is what it is and I'm not complaining, nor am I buying from scalpers.

This and $1.75 will buy you a cup of coffee in some places.

When you start an auction on Gunbroker at .01 you are not scalping anyone.

I was looking to buy a refurbished (by Sig) Sig Sauer P 229 Elite (there are a lot of them apparently from departments trading in on P320’s?). It is astounding how many first time buyers are irrationally bidding them up. Many are bid up to the $800-1000 range when there are buy it now pistols at $750!! They are all the exact same condition pistol!!

In that case you might want to edit your original post on the subject.

I see your from Collins ,Maine. I from Iowa. Rural America is being deserted by young people who cannot find jobs. the manufacturing base has disappeared because it couldn't compete with Asia and Mexico labor.I think you need to visit the midwest and central west. it's becoming shanty town. You want to se growth visit the Des Moines ,Iowa area. There is so much housing construction going on it's mind boggling.I have no idea where the job opportunities are or what they pay.

Not my address. My house has appreciated about 50% in the 7 years I’ve owned it.

BTW, you keep changing the subject. Your original post said houses don’t appreciate. I think you now understand that conclusion is false.

In a free market society I am fine with people selling things for what they can get for them, but for me, I too will not be paying the prices some ask and will not frequent those retailers after things settle down.

By far some of the best deals I've ever gotten on reloading stuff have been a few years after a shortage. Shops after sitting on some high priced stuff for too long fire saled it to get it off the shelf. I'm still stocked on a lot of stuff from 2010/11 bargains.

In terms of shortage pricing, it is what it is. The higher prices go up, the quicker demand goes down, the quicker things get back to normal.

A shout out to goodshootinginc for NOT gouging their customers on ammo. I understand price increases and supply and demand but some of this is ridiculous.
Well, this post went off the rails pretty dramatically. To revisit the OPs statement, I agree, the folks at Goodshooting Inc have great prices and great service. They seems to be one of a select few who are trying to hold the line on price. Many of us can pay the higher prices, moan a bit, but buy it anyway. I'd rather shoot a bit less and support dealers like Goodshooting than shrug off the inflated prices as just another cost of having fun.

If any of you listen to the podcast Gun Talk, you know that Tom Gresham advises us to purchase ammo as often as possible with any leftover funds you have from your previous pay check. With Tom's system, you shouldn't have too many holes in your "ammo inventory" for situations like we are experiencing now.
It does require some pre planning. For example, I just ordered some bullets from Bayou. I'm actually good for most of this year, so I don't really need them now, By summer I will though, making the 12-14 week wait a non issue.

Will give a shout out to Palmetto State Armory. I got some CCI mini mags that had a slight increase in price, but were not at gouging level.

I do believe that the ammo manufacturers and importers realize that they can charge more for their products, so be ready for a price increase when things settle down. I am hoping that the gun stores make a little more money off of us as their margins on guns is dreadful.
I too won't patronize and vendor that gouges on pricing. I just won't shoot that particular gun.

I don't think you understand inflation.

Basically by definition you can't gouge on things that someone wants but does't need. The numbers of shooters that actually need ammo is so small it probably can't be measured.
