Powder, primer, and ammo price gouging!

It didn’t really sell- he just made it look that way, so when the next guy sees 125 a pound, he thinks he is stealing it and buys it.

FWIW: Oh my local state based gun trading forum, powder and primers priced at crazy rates aren't moving. This includes things like Varget and Federal M primers.

So bad business decision to buy it with intent to resell, and price it too high to sell. Or, show out your own personal stock, that if someone wants it bad enough, they can have it. There isn’t a single thing I own in this world that doesn’t fall into the latter category.

$45 a lb is simply "supply and demand".
$175 a lb is simply "a fool and his money are soon parted"
Bubba showing up with a pickup bed full of bottled water after a hurricane and selling it no matter the price is gouging
It absolutely is, and in some cases illegal, as considered a necessity.

Convince me that primers/ powder fall into the same category as gas/water/electricity. Someone getting caught short on supplies after reloading for 42 years, probably doesn’t meet the legal definition of gouging.

I wonder how much the higher container shipping fees contribute to the higher (imported)powder prices:

They're up 700% compared to this time last year.
So far it has not really affected the price of VV powders brought into the US. I base that statement on the fact that Powder Valley, Brownells, and Graf and Sons (and likely others) have been selling VV powders at mostly “normal” prices…. At least for the 5, 8 pound jugs of N-140, N-135, and N-133 I have bought in the last 6 months.

Just the fact that primer listings on the big sites are staying up longer and longer is a good sign. That and the politicians poll numbers are dropping which may cause them to get the supply chains operating again may be a ray of sunlight.

edit- I wonder how much Varget and H4350 are on these ships.

I am sure this is not new info to some: but when they started tacking on Haz-Mat fees, on top of regular shipping charges, several of us from the club would get together when we were ordering powder and order the maximum amount you could on one Haz-Mat fee. Seems like it was 32 pounds or so max on one Haz-Mat fee back then, go over that and you were charged an additional Haz-Mat fee. We, say 4 of us, would split the Haz- Mat, shipping, and any other fees equally. That kept cost per pound, way down. But right now, not only is the powder itself high, distributors have tacked on a maximum on the poundage you can order. Some distributors have down to a 4 pound maximum, some a 10 pound maximum. That adds on significantly to the price per pound. And yes, I figure they are doing this poundage maximum to keep people from hoarding, but it punishes the guys that actually need it to continue shooting/competing.

You guessed it..my buddy and I used to do the same thing, but there was a two lb maximum and he could not get any for me....so...there you go. I had to order my two lbs for myself and pay the additional hazmat fee and shipping.....they got us coming and going right now......
