Portable Shooting Bench/Table

Having a real hard time finding anything of quality online. Does anyone make a quality portable shooting setup for varmint hunting? I have my feelers out with ads and word of mouth for a BR Pivot.

Make your own. Someone on here makes and sells steel leg brackets, you would need to buy 3 pcs of pipe for the legs and a sheet of plywood for the top. you want 3 legs not 4 as you will never get the 4 legs to sit even and steady.

I’ve seen a nice one made of plywood. It had handles attached to carry. The three legs had attachments welded at 15 degrees if I recall, and pipe legs just screwed in. The owner used for prairie dogs and chucks, and had had it for 20 years plus. A good design.

I built one with leg brackets from Urban Rifleman. I have no use for 3 leg tables, been there done that. I have a handle on the 3/4 inch plywood top. 4 legs but not pipe. Too heavy to carry as I often need to carry mine a couple hundred yards. I use plastic pipe which fit in the brackets with enough wobble they are self leveling. Once set up on the legs it is totally solid and I can sit comfortably on a lawn chair between the rear legs.

Four legged shooting tables are stable out in the field. Just get some flooring samples from a big box store, kick a little bit of dirt around, lay the flooring sample down on the ground, and there you go.

I have a variance from NRA to shoot Fclass from a bench I built on a mitre saw stand. Works good for me.

Build your own…brackets are biggest deal

1 1/4” black pipe sleeves cut on 15* angle…legs 31-32” Long

Welded to a 4x4x1/4” plate…I use 3 legs..PVC caps on bottoms

Two pcs 3/4” plywood glued/screwed together…24” wide x 38-40” long

1-2 cut outs for L-R shooters

Most hardware stores can provide black pipe sleeves

I built these just recently. I have added a seat and covered the top. Not hard to do if you can weld. Note: I had a free source of tube & plywood which drove the design.

I do not have photos handy, the top comes off, seat arm comes off, and the legs. The legs store in the center tube for transport so you end up with the center tube, seat, & top. Fits in a pick up easily.

I used a rotating shooting bench for several years. For me it didn't work out very well. I found it wasn't that easy to relocate when needed. I switched over to a game cart & tripod. I move around frequently depending on wind direction and what the prairie dogs are doing. When moving from one spot to another, I can take a quick shot from the game cart. When I get to where I'm going to setup, I open up the tripod and my shooting chair and I'm ready. Less than a minute to setup and take down. Noisy on the move, you bet. I sound like a wagon train going across the prairie, but it doesn't bother the PD.

This is fairly easy to accomplish with those leg brackets sold here by Lonnie. Contrary to common belief I am able to get 4 legs to sit evenly by leaving one of them adjustable. Works on concrete and ground very well.

Look at the Caldwell bench, Amazon has it for sale also. Some one had one we were shooting with, very adequate. We have 'home made' benches, very similar and have used them for 20 years. Some of us use a platform mounted on top of our P.U. bed sides, using similar benches our gun is about 8 above the ground, above the P.U. cab so we can shoot 360 degrees. The 3 and 4 legged benches require moving the rifle's rest and bags. Just rotating slightly is much more convenient. We can adjust the table for height, the seat moves, and there is a lock on the rotation. We are able to drive with the benches set up. All our gear is stored under the platform and the tail gate locks. PM a phone # and I'll send text pics. The benches are very stable, all of us have shot gophers and prairie dogs over 500 yards, and one at close to 700yds.

Those stationary benches/tables with legs are a total PITA in a hot rat patch, having to move them when the action appears 90 degrees~ from where your rifle is pointed. With a rotating bench, it matters not where the target is, just rotate to it and engage. I've been down the 3 and 4 leg bench road before, and that experience is what led to the BR Pivot.



Caldwell cheapened up my original patented design to make their bench more affordable and called it the "Stable Table". Much lighter than the original, less mass and only has one adjustable leg for leveling but works in leiu of 'the real thing'. If you go that route, be sure to get the model with the larger wooden top vs the dinky little plastic thing that passes for a bench top. No room for the shooting elbow or any amount of benchtop equipment. It's not the genuine article, but works in a pinch.

Got to be honest, sort of scared to try the Caldwell. I'm no lightweight (260) I hate gambling and want to do it right the first time! Rick, I'm pretty convinced were not going to find one of yours. However, my fingers are crossed.
