I've been a lifelong pistol shooter and competed for about 30 years in NRA Precision, Hunter Pistol Silhouette and the United States Revolver Competition. In the late 60's through the 80's I hunted groundhogs extensively with a pistol and dabbled in deer hunting with a pistol. These days, I'm a regularly paper puncher at the pistol range because I just enjoy target shooting pistols.
I've owned and shot a few semi-auto's but for me I'm a 100% revolver guy. I know it's not in vogue anymore but for me, the reliability, the quality, and performance of a revolver suits me perfectly. I have no desire or need to own a semi-auto. If you can't do it with six, well you're probably not going to do it.

However, you can't play Rambo or Navel Seal with a revolver.

Never could understand what is being achieved by shooting 10 to 15 rounds of sustained fire.
I haven't purchased a revolver in a long time, but the S&W's were the top of the line in my purchasing days. I own several, most are over 30 years old, some older still. They still shoot and function flawlessly. If you take care of them, they will last a lifetime and probably your child's lifetime. They are maintenance friendly also.
With a little aftermarket work, the Ruger Single Actions are very reliable and fun to shoot and can be very accurate. I've owned several Blackhawks and Single Sixes.
The new Colts look awful nice, but the prices are horrendous but what isn't these days. I guess it's not too bad if you consider it a lifetime investment and if you're young enough to amortize the cost. Those days are long gone for me, or I'd take the plunge. See how easy it is to talk yourself into buying a new gun.
Those are my thoughts from a "gray beard" pistol shooter for another era.
