Palma Alliance 2018

Is there anything special to joining? Is facebook a requirement. Alberta Canada slingshooter here.

Cheers

Hi Keegs,
The only requirement to join is a commitment to shooting only an iron-sighted Palma rifle with sub-156 grain bullets (or .223 with sub-81 grain) for all Prone matches. Members can still play with their other toys if they like, but at match time, it’s old school Palma.

If that sounds like you, send me an email with your name, address, phone and email and I will send you out a membership packet. International members are welcome, we are currently in 5 countries.

Best,
Erik

Maybe Barnard will become a Palma Alliance sponsor. Have we cornered the Barnard Market here in the States?

Sorry to jump the gun. Pun intended. What's your preference in actions and barrels? I have competed with several types of actions and barrel makers over the years. Best barrel I ever shot was a Shilen, but always got steady performance from Obermeyer and Schneider.

We definitely shoot a lot of Barnard’s around here, I’d have to say it’s probably the most used action for US Prone shooters. It might not be the perfect action, but it sure is nice. Personally, I love how smooth they cycle and the short bolt throw which lets me work the bolt without having to move around too much to affect my position. Throw in the excellent fully-adjustable trigger that’s included in the price, and they are pretty tough to beat for value. I think if money and time were no object, I might try something like a Bat 3L with a Bix & Andy trigger, but it wouldn’t be enough of an upgrade to get me to switch from what I already have. Unless I win the lottery, then I’m going completely insane.

As for barrels, I’ll take one of whatever Corning has on his Palma rifle!

Barrels? Back in 2007 I was using a 30" Krieger, .3065 x .298. I had north of 6K round through it. Today, I am using a 32" Bartlein, .3075 x .298. In 10 years, I am lucky if I have 2K round through the Bartlein. I would consider either of those again, or a Brux, when I look to replace again.

I am currently shooting (when I do shoot) a MCS Palma action. It is a big, strong, slab sided, flat bottom, single shot action, but unfortunately an "orphan". It has a 3 lug, coned bolt, and a long tenon. I am not sure what I would do if I had to purchase another action today, but I would consider Defiance, BAT, Stiller, and then some, including Barnard. I would be looking for something with a long(er) barrel tenon, "true" single shot, coned bolt option, and Sako style extractor. I'm not too picky, am I?

My biggest problem today is finding/making the time to get out and shoot.

Can we use 300m prone results for the postal league?.... I shot the palma rifle.... not sure I want to do that again.

I think I’m only going to get one set of scores into the postal league before Nationals. There’s still 5-6’ of snow on our provincial range haha.

I feel your pain. We are supposed to be getting another 12” snowfall tonight and tomorrow.

I'm going to be able to send in my first set of scores by the end of April. We don't have any snow left, fortunately, but it just now starting to warm up - had a couple of good Friday practices, but now its time to get serious.

To say nothing of the ~ 50 mph winds predicted:(

Yeah, this is not a great start to spring. On the upside, I got a whole batch of 1000 once-fired Palma cases de-primed, cleaned, chamfered and annealed yesterday, and will get a bunch of them turned into new ammo over the remainder of the weekend. When life hands you crap, make crap-enade!

Erud should have clarified. That is a short a in the pronunciation of "enade". :D:D:D:D

Going to make some ammo and shoot the scatt this weekend too.

Palma Alliance is now a recognized club in the eyes of the NRA. What does this mean and how does it help?
