Cutting off and re-crowning would also require re-threading, all cost prohibitive.
The crown is on the other end. They make hand tools you could re-crown it with

Dust is right as always. You get what you pay for. One thing I learned is buy the best once, form a reputable entity, and you won't be sorry. Buy cheap and you will most usually be sorry and will need to buy again. The Bitterness of Poor Quality Remains Long After the Sweetness of Low Price is Forgotten
Think threaded barrel for suppressor, maybe.
How much did the take off barrel cost ? This reminds me of a song , (don't worry-be happy )I recently purchased my first, and last Savage Takeoff Barrel from Northland Shooters Supply.
Attached you will see two images. These targets were shot at 50yds, so double group size to get MOA.
The image tagged "308 TO 6moa" was fired from a NSS Savage large shank 308 barrel. I called NSS to discuss the results ( 6moa) and they said the group was so large it couldn't possibly be due to their barrel. I disassembled the rifle and reassembled paying extra attention to barrel nut and action screw torques. The results were identical.
I then replaced the NSS barrel with the original 6Creedmoor barrel that came on the rifle in heavily used condition. The target tagged "Cabelas 1moa" was the result.
NSS quoted their return policy and denied any form of restitution. It may be that I am the only NSS customer to ever have this experience. I personally will never give them another try.

Savage will want the whole rig. They do not advocate swapping the barrels. That is just an after effect of their manufacturing process- it wasnt to make it easier to swap barrelsDosen't the "CLEARANCE page on the NSS say
Savage New Unfired Take-Off Barrels ??
And IF the Bbl. has "SAVAGE MODEL __ Cal. 308 Win.
Then return it to SAVAGE and see what they say
I did bore scope it. Heavily pitted most of length with noticeable copper fouling. This before I mounted it. Savage will not warranty any barrel sold by a third party.
I took this as he called NSS and this was their answer????I recently purchased my first, and last Savage Takeoff Barrel from Northland Shooters Supply.

If interested in the $$$, check the NSS site, the takeoff's list for $ 185.00 to $ 225.00I'm curious, there's no mention of what was paid, $$$ for this barrel. Could be an indication of what we're working with here. Is this truly a "get what you pay for" scenario. I have never known Jim to misrepresent any products associated with his company. No mention of the load that was shot through this 308 Barrel. Comparing a 308 to a 6 mm without detailed info, Hmmmm.
Since the OP said the OME barrel was a 6 CM , which means he's right handed, so I'll leave him and you'll to sort this out.Savage will want the whole rig. They do not advocate swapping the barrels. Thats pretty cryptic but if he sends that barrel back to savage you know theyre just going to laugh. It would be like sending a trigger back to remington. They want the whole rig since a barrel is not a user servicable part, and this barrel is not the barrel that came with that serial number action- you fiddle with it savage wont assume anymore responsibility. Break the seal on a remington trigger adjustment screw and youll get a new trigger and a bill even if it was sent in for a broken stockSince the OP said the OME barrel was a 6 CM , which means he's right handed, so I'll leave him and you'll to sort this out.
So, you put a junk barrel on an action and expected a miracle, that's good. I'll have to try that sometime.
