Didn`t we go thru this BS awhile back about another long shot. This shot was like any other long shot. it takes time and effort. You don`t have to be impressed, but you should at least acknowledge the effort. Like when I was a kid shooting at a can with my BB gun. Kept moving back until it was almost impossible to hit and then shooting the rest of my BB`s until that one good hit. It`s about what YOU want to do. JeffLike I said I'm done. You obviously have a hard time reading the first two lines of my first post. Good luck and have a good day!
Are you really done or just semi done?Like I said I'm done
It ain't about me or how pathetic my marksmanship is...but 1 hit in 69 shots is not impressive, but ya finally got lucky, and the wind probably helped ya out, situation....no matter the range, ...How many shots are acceptable to connect one time with one target 500rds, or a thousand? ...Every day for 20 years, hoping, some day you will get lucky and be successful?
Unimpressive to me without followup hits and a much lesser round count down range. They should keep practicing...and I encourage that. Your opinion may differ....but for now, the money spent helps the economy and keeps some folks entertained...so there's that... and that's a good thing.
My video response.I do agree with you in as, it was a hell of a shot. 4+ freaking miles. That's a long way.
The issue is, how many shots, and the practicality of it.
It's a great accomplishment in the ELR field.
This forum deals with more of a precision based ideology, not lets shoot
as many times until we hit the target once.
I apologize for any pain or suffering that our shot caused. It probably won't happen again. (Primarily because we are not very good). ;-) Keep the fun comments coming ya'll, I am snacking on a tofu-infused brussel sprout soy milk latte and can handle folks pointing out that the shot was nothing special. Sniffle... lolReply quickly. This looks like a lock coming. " Can`t we just all get along?" Jeff
I think shooting is fun. I am not good at it, but it is fun. I hope everyone enjoys the style that is fun for them.Well I'm glad I'm able to have my own opinion even though it's wrong. I'm still waiting for the number of shots to kill the second dog past 1000.
This goes back 15 years when we were doing the same thing at 3000+ yards. Others could not do it or would not try it so there for no one could do it. Anything we did was wrong and all the keyboard shooters were right for whatever reason. I got tired of defending our actions then and I'm done defending these guys actions now from some people that just don't have a clue.
I was just doing that math yesterday, I took the size in inches that a moa is at 100 yards (1.047) and multiplied it times how many HUNDREDS of yards this shot was (77.44). I arrived at 81.07968, so basically 81".Whats 1 MOA at 4.4 miles?
Very well said. Thank you sir.I not one to judge, but anyone can post rules that say “they shoulda done it this way”. But to put a limit on whatever methods anyone used to accomplish a goal is just sayin you don’t agree with there accomplishments. So what. Move on. No military sniper that took 1.5+ mile shots hit on cold bore first shot. They walked the bullet in. (Read those articles) From experience, this is my purpose build 2 mile+ setup from 2009-2010 for PRAIRIE DOGS…. Yep it’s 71lbs. Yep it’s a converted bench gun. Yep I built the custom adjustable scope mounts. I made the 500,1000,1500 and 2k club in varmit hunter downrange club. NOPE, I ain’t carrying it very far. We didn’t kill a prairie dog over 2 miles, but it’d hold a 5’-6’ group at 3,640 yards. So yea, there is some luck with hit any target at EXTREME distances. But don’t bash on someone’s accomplishments if you don’t agree. Oh, and jghoghunter that posted earlier in the thread, that’s his purpose built 2 mile gun in the background. The green gun. Drive on Nomad. I shoot to suite ME, as you guys are doing. It`s a shame we can`t share without some BS about our activity. Enjoy life. Over and out, JeffI apologize for any pain or suffering that our shot caused. It probably won't happen again. (Primarily because we are not very good). ;-) Keep the fun comments coming ya'll, I am snacking on a tofu-infused brussel sprout soy milk latte and can handle folks pointing out that the shot was nothing special. I suspect that if we had taken 10 more shots, none would have hit the target. I am guessing that in the same switchy 8mph winds, we would have been at 1 in a hundred, or at best with lower winds, 1 in 50. Every MPH of full-value wind (if it was constant over every square inch of the bullet's path with a max ordinate exceeding 2,500 feet) would drift the bullet 26 feet.I had the same thought.
I guess a question would be, after they are sighted in, how many hits out of, say, 10 do they make?
I also noted they have spotters down range.
