New 22BR and 90VLD's

Yea, i saw yours and posted there. PM me if you have any other questions and i am more than willing to discuss it on the phone too.

Don't delete it.

I've been watching it through the whole thing.

I've been thinking of doing a 22BR.

Keep it coming.

Well this past sunday, i fire formed the last of the brass i had. I had 66 pcs left to fire form, so that had me two sighters and twenty for record. On the first match, i had forgotten that i had the scope set for the 90's instead of the 75 Amaxes. So my sighters went under the target. Once we figured that out, i came up four moa (should have used five) and shot an 8 for the first record shot, so the first match was a 198-10X, in the second match, ended up shooting a 197-7X with a crossfire and on the last match a 200-11X, with both of the sighters being X's as well. I took a picture of the group, since it was on a fresh face to post, but my phone decided it was time to hard reset it's self, so now i don't have the pic of the target. I am going to have to find my other camerra and start using it again.

Got asked a couple of questions of the thread.

I haver tried 8208XBR Powder, as for seating the 75's, i used the same seating depth seating on the seating die for the 90's, mainly because i didn't want to move it. Seems to work. And the trim lenght i ended up with is 1.541 on the cases.

Well, with ff loads, a 200-11xs isn't too bad. I can't seem to do that with my regular loads. My highest is 198 with 13xs. I always goof up one other two shots. Im shooting a 34 round match on the 6th so im hoping that i cab keep it together and shoot a clean target.

Well if over a third of your shots are X's, your doing good. It is just a matter of concentration from that point forward.

I prob will not shoot this rifle again till July. I am now working again on the new 223 that i have.

Froggy,

I may have missed it.....

What speeds are you getting with the 75Amax bullets????

Phil.

Gosh fellas...Great thread..just took the time to read it all and all sounds like fun. I have a couple of 22BRs and really like the cartridge over the 22 250 I shot for so many years. I've had excellent results with VVN150 on the 75-80grainers in my 2 rifles. Haven't done much testing over 400yds yet as I've been playing with the 6 dasher but my best 22BR group at 400 was 4 I could cover with a nickel and of course one to the right, same elevation about an inch. Best Wishes all.

Well I need to stuff more powder in the cases. Did another ladder with dry bullets, low node is 30.7 GRS, mid node is somewhere around 31.3 grs and still not at pressure. Prob will do another test here real soon with more powder! At 600, the rifle acts like it wants to shoot, but not at 1K, also it appears that this bbl likes dry bullets over moly.

Jeez Randy, I'd read about your intentions to build the 22BR way back last fall, then kinda forgot about looking for any news of your progress with it. Haven't been spending much time browsing on the net lately I guess, or I'd have seen this thread.

I haven't shot my 223 Palma rifle since last summer; got sidetracked by other projects (223 AI & 6.5-08 Imp) and just never got around to it. Last effort I made was trying to sort out the Bartlein's preference between N550 & 2000MR, but never followed through & settled that issue. Matter of fact, I've been thinking about pulling the 223 Bartlein 1:7.2 5R and putting the 6BR bbl & bolt back on the R5 tubegun.

It's highly unlikely that I'll get the opportunity to shoot a Palma match this summer, so perhaps I might as well use the 22BR reamer I have on one of the remaining .224" 5R 1:7.2tw bbls? Sounds like fun! I still have several boxes of the old gold box Lapua BR brass - are you running the blue plastic box brass in the 22BR?

Dennis,

Yes I am using the blue box brass. Turning the brass down to .248 after expanding the necks. The throat is at .2535, if I get a chance tomorrow, I am going to test a few more loads. Right now, I am at 31.3 grs of H4350 and still not at pressure yet.

I cant remember if JLK's still make a 90gr bullet as well, but that worked very well in my old 7 twist 22BR as well mate. They are just hard to source in Aus, but you should have no issue.

Shot another test today, went up to 33.0 grs of H4350. The case had the powder up to the bottom of the neck, still no pressure. Wade has the photo of the test and waiting for him to post the pic. Oh from my testing, I feel that you will be wasting your time with moly'd bullets. You can't get enough powder in the case.

Chris,

Don't worry about that, I have become to treat this thread more as my journal as to what I am doing. Yesterday I got the chance to shoot some over a chronograph and was surprised at the results. The bullet wasn't going near as fast as I would think. But after checking things on the JBM, I am ok with the results as to the velocity. Of course I have not tried RL17 yet, which from two different fellows, came up as the first choice on their Quickloads program. I may try 2000MR again, but without the moly on the bullets. I need to load up a couple more ladder tests and give them a whirl. At least I have a good idea of where to start on the ladder. I may be wrong, but I have a feeling that the sweet spot is going to be two to three tenths below the pressure point. Now if Wade would post that pic of my last five shots, I would do it, but I can't get the picture small enough to upload from the phone.
