New 22BR and 90VLD's

Sunday will be the first time I will shoot it @ 1K, it is supposed to be a lil on the cool side. So we will see how it acts then.
Best of luck Sunday, I will be waiting to hear from you.
Wayne.

I had issues Sunday with elevation, but I believe it is from fireforming new brass. The new brass was sometimes hard to close the bolt on. But once fired sized brass the bolt closes like butter, I feel that after the brass is formed, the elevation will go away.

Did you ever get to chrono any of the loads? I picked up a 22dasher 8tw and loaded some 75 Amax's over 2000MR.
I started at 35.5g for 3475fps..36.2g=3500fps and 36.8g=3540fps and bolt lift started to get just a little noticable.

I haven't loaded anymore yet with the 2000MR other than stuffing a few 53g Vmax over 36.8g that went 3720fps.

Just wondered if you got any solid numbers with it,I also use it in my 260ai with 140's.

No I have not done any chrony work yet. I pretty much wait to do that till after I have found my accuracy load. But I will be doing that here soon.

I believe that I have found a fireforming load. It is one that I pulled out of the air. I didn't change the seating depth on the seating die from what I had it set for the 90's. The load was 30.0 grs of Varget with a Hornady 75 gr Amax. This load is holding 1/3 moa @ 600 yards.

Ha guys, I needed to jump in here, I just built a 22 BR, haven't put it into a stock yet, it will be a couple of weeks before I get that done. I was planning to shoot it at 600 just for kicks, didn't think it would make 1000 with any quality. The barrel is a Bartlein 8tw finished at 30, chambered in 22BR, I need to turn the necks to .0105 to 0110 loaded round should be at .246. My friend had a similar build and his would shoot 3 in groups at 600 repeatedly. I will keep you posted as this progresses

I shoot my 280 AI and my 6XC at 1,000, got my HM at 1000 with my 280 AI. I think it would be a real hoot to shoot the 22 BR at 1000, maybe this summer I will give it a try. Thanks for the response, I have 1000 80's and just might give em a try at 1000.

Last year at Grayling, I watched a man shoot all 22 minutes with a 223 and never hit the target one time, that soured me with the 223 at 1000. I was going to build my last one in 223 but was talked out of it and to build the 22 BR. I think it will be a good choice.

Yeah, I see the jilt that you would have with that experience. I believe I have hit the target more than a few times with my 223's.

On the other hand, I feel that a properly tuned 22BR would indeed make a good choice. It all comes down bullet and bbl twist rate choice in my opinion.

Here's how I see it, the 223 is a great across the course round, not intended for benchrest accuracy, where is the 22 BR is designed for benchrest accuracy and the bullet should exit 200 - 300 FPS faster than the 223. Nothing against the 223, I shoot mine all the time and do truly feel it to be a great cartrage, but on the other hand when at 600 and especially 1000 more speed and more accuracy is important. FWIW

One of 223's is pushing the 90VLD @ 2785, the other @ 2950 and the 22BR is @ 3200. All good roundss and a whole lot of fun to shoot. There is something to said for less recoil.

I shoot the 223's in Palma and the 22BR is going to be the Any/Any gun. Looking forward to that!

Keep me posted as to how you do, I may shoot mine at 1000 and see if it can hold up. Get er done.

Shot the 22BR this afternoon, was wrong on the elevation come up from six hundred, had to use six more moa to get on and it was a ten. Afterr that the next eighteen rrounds were tens and exes, except twice when the clouds obscured the sun and the mirage was gone, I got a one to one an one half moa push to the nine o'clock side of the target. This was fireforming the brass with the 75 Amax and 30.0 grs of Varget, Tula primer. 98% of the shots were in the call radius.

That's really great, now as I have always said the hardest time to shoot long range is when there is no sun. Mirage is our best friend when it comes to doping the wind. Anyway your 22 is smokeing I hope mine shoots as well. Soon I will give you a report. I am in Florida getting my stuff ready and will travel to my Michigan Summer home starting Saturday. When I get there I will get the little darlin up and running.
Keep me posted.
