Neolube No.2

Benchrest Braxton,
I use the same method as you, including the same swabs from Amazon. I re-dip every 5 rounds to keep the lube evenly applied. Have you tried applying Neo-Lube to the bullets, before seating, as well?

I have not tried Neo-Lube for sizing. I use Imperial sizing wax. I clean it off using acetone.

i have but i haven't really got into alot of testing unfortunately with having a 2 year old and working. once she is school age its game on. so right now i'm in full blown hoard mode on components.

RCBS case lube 2 on their pad
Never changed since 1964
No reason to. Pad worn out after a few decades. Replaced it. End of case lube story.

I have not used it to expand the necks, as I use the Sinclair dry-lube, no need to clean that off.

I do apply it to inside the necks before loading my 20 Vartarg and 20 Practical ammo, probably will do it for all my "accuracy" loads. I got some small foam tipped applicators off Temu, they look like a cross between a tooth pick and a Q-tip. Neolube Inside the necks is excellent to provide consistent neck tension, and makes seating the bullets really smooth!

I forgot the application to the barrel, thanks for the reminder!

I tried NeoLube #2 on inside necks before seating bullet and on inside neck and bearing surface of bullet before seating bullet. Both approaches made seating the bullet smooth. Doing both inside neck and bearing surface of bullet reduced velocity variation more so. (i.e. lower standard deviation)

I use the Neolube 2 on my cases before I run them through the mandrel, then again when I’m seating. Been doing it this way for a number of years now. I have tried graphite powder and moly powder and prefer the Neolube over both. Particularly in seating because I can check the inside of my cases and be certain that I have complete coverage throughout the interior of the neck. With the powders, I got inconsistent results where the powders left area on the necks uncovered. NeoLube is kind of pricey, but I always get very consistent results on every case.

Nothing, graphite, micro mica. Just dipping neck in dry lube works very well, but I never found a reason to lube inside or outside of neck.

Is Lock-Ease the same as Neolube 2 ?
Tom
Not exactly.

Both ultimately rely on graphite, but the differences start after that statement.

Lock-Ease is a much broader spread of particle shapes and sizes, and the carrier was mostly Stoddard Solvent the last time I studied it. The NeoLube#2 has a very narrow particle size and type, and uses a more volatile carrier to evaporate on a surface faster.

The purpose of Lock-Ease is to have a carrier flow into capillary gaps and transport graphite particles of different sizes into locks where the surfaces and gaps may be contaminated and of various blind gap dimensions, and the Stoddard Solvent is good at that. It is also pretty good at loosening up polymerized lubes that might be gumming up a lock and getting in the way. Stoddard Solvent is a wide blend of hydrocarbons, not a refined narrow solvent like an alcohol.

NL#2 is supposed to leave a layer of graphite on an open surface like a threaded fastener, where other hydrocarbons are considered a contaminate.

As shooters, we just borrow these from their intended applications and they lend themselves to what we are doing from time to time.

Is Lock-Ease the same as Neolube 2 ?
Tom
No it is not. Lock-Ease does not appear to have anywhere near the same concentration of graphite in it. The Lock-Ease is kind of an opaque black liquid, while the Neolube is an absolute jet black liquid. I would not think Lock-Ease would leave anywhere near the amount of graphite on the case necks that NeoLube does.

Neolube is sub-micron graphite in an alcohol carrier. Lock-Eze is graphite in an alcohol carrier. Likely differences are graphite particle size, and the amount of graphite in a given amount of the mix.

Easy enough to mix an analog using Isopropanol (isopropyl alcohol) and the finest particle size graphite you can find (in my case, it's 5 micron, found on Amazon.) Up to you to determine how much graphite should be in the mix.
