Need some lube advice!

I'm having a problem getting the brass to go into the fl die the whole way which then causes it not to chamber. I'm sizing 22-250 brass and I'm thinking its the lube or is 22-250 always hard to size.
Thanks for looking

What are you using for lube with these? 22-250 should not be any differant then other necked cases.
Is this a new die? If so did you clean the air hole?
I've gone to just neck sizing on my 22-250's.

I use RCBS-II an have no problem FL sizing or case forming.

Make sure that your decapping assembly is not set too low. If it is, the expander can hit the inside of the case. Any resizing lube will work.

I'm using rcbs fl dies just the cheap ones and hornady one shot lube ill check the decapping assembley for proper set up

Was the brass that you are trying to size shot from the same rifle that you are reloading for??? Or was this brass fired in another 22-250 rifle? WD

I use the ONE SHOT. Make sure you get a full coating on the brass. Inside the neck and out. I've even gave a quick shot in the die and let it dry before sizing.

22-250 presents no special problems for sizing. I would be more concerned with proper die set up.
Worth a read and there are plenty more:http://www.chuckhawks.com/adjust_reloading_dies.htm

So if I read your post correctly at some point the FL sizing process is completed and upon removal the brass does not chamber? Or are you able to get the brass to a certain point in the die and you do stop it there and then find it does not chamber?
Boyd, of course is correct with the decapping assembly being set too low....so run it all the way up, or remove it and see what happens.
And I am assuming this brass WAS fired in YOUR rifle.
Forgetting to lube the case usually results in a stuck case....it's in the die all the way...the removal of it is always interesting.
Although everyone has their favorite lube, the lube you are using is probably the last thing I would consider as a cause for this problem. (Proper application of course)
Also....has this been a problem for you from the 1st 22-250 case you tried to size?

I would go easy on running the decapping stem all the way up, in some cases this would block the case neck from entering the neck part of the die. This can happen on some mfgs. dies and not on others. If you simply take it out for one case, that should confirm that its setting was too low, or you can raise it till it no longer deprimes the case and then short stroke and adjust till it does, reliably.

That Hornady One Shot is JUNK. I bought a can and tried it one time just to see how well it worked. It went straight in the trash after the first use. Went back to using my Imperial sizing wax and never looked back.

The decapping assembly was to low which cause it not to go completly in die but is still takes a lot of force to size it. I'm going to try to find new lube to see if that helps. I have check everything else.

Use this and stop milking a simple job. ::)

It also will help heal any puss filled sores on your hands and make them udderly soft.

(and work a thousand times better than Hornady one stuck case lube)

Which "Hornady One Shot" are you talking about? There is "Hornady One Shot" Case Lube in a spray can and "Hornady One Shot" Case Sizing Wax in a can. I use the wax and it works great. I have used the Hornady Wax and the Imperial wax and do not really see any difference. I have never used the Hornady spray can.

Throw the one shot spray lube in the trash can before you get a stuck case. I use a touch of kiwi mink oil shoe polish(in the round tin). It is mostly lanolin, it works slick. When all cases are done sizing I spray them off with non clorinated brake clean and roll them around in a old tee shirt to get the lube off. Fast and easy! I reiterate, dump that crappy lube before you ruin a case and a die. Lol ;)

Jortz, I have read the whole thread and didn't hear any thing about weather or not you have the die all the way against the shell holder. I use one shot on any ammo that will be used at 300 yrds or less and if you don't have enough on the cases it can stick a case. I spray from all four corners of the loading tray and don't have a problem. if you have the die all the way against the shell holder and your shoulder is not pushed (bumped) back far enough you will have to sand or surface grind a few thousandths off the top of the shell holder so the die can size the case a little more. Good luck and let us know what solves your problem.

Some of the commercial die lubes sold by familiar name companies have water in them. Some people have reported it causes rust in your dies. Whatever you use read the label and avoid the product if it contains water.

I use One Shot spray exclusively on my short, fat, no expander ball, benchrest cases. 1,000's of cases per year. It works great. You must shake the can every time and you must ensure complete coverage.

For FL resizing on long cases, cases using an expander ball or case forming, I DO NOT use One Shot spray. Something heavier duty is required. I use Imprerial Die Sizing Wax or the Hornady One Shot wax. I either run it through the ultrasonic cleaner or wipe it off with rubbing alcohol on a paper towel.

Different things work in different applications. Find something that works for your particular application. Sounds like one of the waxes or the RCBS jell lube will work for you.

If you dies use an expander ball...and I believe that they do, make sure that you lube the inside of the necks.

As someone else mentioned, make dang sure that your decapping pin is not run out too long.

Best,
