Why?….. why grind a $10 shell holder when you can take a cheap stock one that we all have hundreds of laying around and grind it down. This is not rocket science!… many on this forum have done it for years. If you don’t want to grind your $.50 shell holder chuck your die in the lathe and take a little off it, I find the shell holder much easier. The solution is to buy the Competition Shell Holders and grind them down for more bump![]()
Your correct it did, I take this forum, the members of it and reloading and our shooting sport in general very seriously. Have a nice eveningJoke went over someone's head![]()
I 100% understand the Redding Competition shell holder sets, never seen a need for them nor shims!… that’s why the die has threads48 posts, 3 pages, Saturday to Monday, and some just don't get the Competition Set.
BTW, has anyone EVER had a Redding Body Die that you could not get enough bump?
It is late and my head hurts. I will have to think about that tomorrow.I believe you DO understand them. (hope I didn't offend you).
So do SOME of the posters in this thread.
@Old Navy If the chamber was cut to SHALLOW you might not be able to get enough bump. The Competition Set would/might help in that case.
Best idea of the threadWe need a voting thread for this.
Most likely caliber to experience "can't get enough bump",
Brand of die most likely to be short, or long
Press that causes the problem.
I’m not a total idiot all though I have done some dumb things but you have lost me officially with that post. I know how they work but can’t pick up what you’re putting down. I’m just glad I don’t have whatever problem op is having. Carry onThe solution is to buy the Competition Shell Holders and grind them down for more bump.
Grind 0.006" off each and get 0.004" more through 0.004" less bump.

Have you tried sb dies. I think rcbs sb dies will fix your problem.I just started reloading for 6ARC, and with a standard shell holder and Forster sizing die I can’t get enough shoulder bump. I have ground down a couple other shell holders for other calibers, but I was wondering if anyone sells shell holders that have dimensions equal to those that have been ground down, for this case scenario. I don’t feel like grinding this down like the others. I do it rather crudely, and I would rather have it completely squared to the face of the die. It seems rather common. Thanks in advance!
Rockervapor,Was too late.
I can't figure out what I posted either![]()
They play a little mind game alright.Rockervapor,
I get it, or I think I do!! Lol. I believe, since the day they were first offered, the Redding Competition Shell Holder sets have caused more confusion than actually fixing the problem most people experience with dies. Easy peasy. Lol.
