Need a new rimfire

I called Vudoo and had a nice chat with them. Going to have the LGS order me a Ravage tomorrow. I worked for this particular LGS putting myself through school and we sold Cooper rifles. They all looked amazing and “most” shot extremely well without going back. Lots of love here for the V22 so that’s nice to see. I’ve got 10 acres on Orcas so I’ll set up some steel at various distances and have a nice little course of fire. Now I just need to pick an optic

If you have the space to shoot several hundred yards you'll want at least a 20 or 30 moa scope rail on your action. At some point you will try it. Get a graduated reticle in your optic but nothing too cluttered. MOA or mils doesn't matter. Whatever your familiar with.You may be surprised how consistently you can ring a plate at 300 yds. Quality ammo will be a sticking point right now but start looking right away so you can shoot it when it arrives. If you have an in at your LGS they may be able to help you with that. Ask if they can locate some lapua center-x or SK rifle match or equivalent. Start now on the ammo !!

I would buy a chainsaw too. 150 yds won't even be a good test for your new Vudoo.

I’ve got a little Stihl MS361 that’s been ported, tuned and generally just slicked up. It runs pretty good Before I was born my dad ran a logging company in the San Juan’s. I’ll take my range finder up with me next time but I’m betting from the either the front or back porch of the cabin I can hang a few steel plates out to about 150 maybe 200 in one spot. I’ll just make the targets smaller to keep the challenge higher.

I've got plenty of 22lr in the cabinet. I only really get to go shooting a few times a year. This is more about getting something that is truly a joy to own and shoot. The Cooper with its nice wood is very tempting but then again the pure engineering and accuracy demonstrated by the Voodoo is amazing. I budgeted 4 to 5 grand for the rifle and optic so the Voodoo is easy, the Cooper would be tight and both isn't quite going to happen this year.

If you assume a Vuudoo is more accurate than a Cooper you are fooling yourself.

There are many examples of each that will out-shoot the other. Accuracy is 90% attributable to the individual barrel. I assure you that Vuudoo has nothing Anschutz and Cooper don't have.

All are remarkable; all things being equal, in that price range I like wood!...Tom

Lots of good advice here, but a Vudoo and a Cooper are really apples and oranges so you need to decide what kind of .22 you want for your particular shooting needs. The Cooper is a classic sporter style, more of a hunter than a paper puncher. The Vudoo is a dedicated PRS trainer that mimics your larger centerfire 700 based rifle. I like sporters myself, but I prefer my Anschutz to a Cooper in terms of accuracy. Hard to beat the Coopers for beauty though!

Hi Thomas, does your Cooper shoot well? Any chance of you doin a 6x5 challenge put on by a certain forum where there are hiding snipers (probably bad form to name a different forum here)? There isn't a Cooper on that list and given the test targets that I've seen, that is surprising, seems that they should be well represented. There is about every other premium and not so premium brand / model represented. Maybe Cooper .22lr owners don't shoot for groups or just aren't familiar with that challenge.

I'm fond of Coopers, being in Montana and the .204 that I owned was sure a beautiful gun, too beautiful for me, I was always scared of bumping it. I've had to get over that in recent years, too many beautiful guns in form and function to let it stop me from shooting them!

Anyway, any time I see someone posting accuracy claims, I always try to point them to that challenge so everyone can see how they actually stack up, then the claims can have some firm merit. I put my Vudoo up there, it was just ok shooting in the low .3s. I hope to improve upon that on a better condition day, and my new gun will get put up there too, hopefully much better than .3s .

some 84 models you could look at on eurooptic.com, 34 of which appear to be in stock
trusted name, long history, high quality, wide array of styles available
sporter, competition, classic, biathlon, modern, or just barreled actions
(and some very pretty wood, if that is appealing)

the Steyr Zephyr II is a very pretty classic sporter as well, ~$1000, though not a target rifle per se

You might want to consider a hummer (17 hmr) instead of 22LR, if you have not yet done so
They typically will out shoot any but the most expensive of 22 rimfires at 50 to 100 yards
shoot flatter and faster at twice the range

Is Orcas your home base? At our local range just outside of Seattle (Kenmore) we have a very strong rimfire group. Monthly 50 yard benchrest competitions, and a group of us will go to longer range (200 yards) matches at Machias and Puyallup. Machias is strictly fun, shooting at steel silhouettes, and the match at Paul Bunyan in Puyallup is pretty informal. PM me if you're interested and want to hear more.

I will bet you love it. I would get the longest barrel offered, and plan to put a tuner on the end and a nice NF on top. With the tuner you tune to whatever ammo you have, instead of trying 50 lots until you find just the right one. WELL worth the small amount they cost. Shooting tuned also means you do not have to have the barrel threaded. It is not nearly as quiet as if suppressed but I can't run both and prefer the Harrell's for the extreme accuracy. It also eliminates a lot of the crack.
