Need more rimfire help

Yet another vote here for a CZ, chambered in .22 LR. I have a 452 Varmint - great rifle! Can't speak for the Savage rimfire, although I own two Savage centerfire target actions - no complaints with these, either. Good luck and it's great that you're taking the time to introduce your grandsons to the sport!

Willy,,you can find them,,but goodluck,,with the internet people know what their worth,,or they need a lot love,,I have a some that shoot great,,Remmy 513,,Stevens 416,,Winny 52,,Kimber 82,,and the 455V,,in good shape all those oldies usually command top $$$,,

For me...took a CZ 455 Varmint, turned the muzzle down to .750 to accept a Norm Houle Bloop Tube, replaced trigger with a Timney, dropped it all into a PDC Custom aluminum stock and I use my Warner and RightSight match sights to make one hell of a nice match rifle trainer for sling shooting. With Lapua CenterX, it shoots like an Anschutz at a fraction of cost. I guess where I was going before this tangent is...the CZ 455 is just as capable even without the trigger change, but the Timney does add some panache.

That cursed internet and all of its forums has scr**ed us all...

I am a serious benchrest guy but have not had anything to do with rimfire in 40 years or so! Grandsons showing serious interest in learning to shoot with one 15 and one 12. I have a Mossbert Huckster in .22 magnum without a scope that works and a barreled action for a Marlin .22 rebarreled to .17. I don't trust the .17 until I can try it out. It misfired with my son many years ago and cracked the stock, locked up to action, etc. I suspect it was bad ammo because I know they had many failures right after the .17 came out. I have a 2.5 to 7 Weaver like new to put on something.

Part of my decision is do I want a .17, .22, or .22 Magnum as a first rifle for two boys.I don;t even know the price difference nowadays nor whether the .22 availability problem is solved.

I am considering getting a CZ American 455 or a Savage stainless, both Bolt actions because the goal is to prepare them for a great life inheriting my precision bolt weapons. Accuracy is very important in this decision.

Is a CZ worth the extra money and is the amount of plastic with the Savage too much.

So questions are caliber, most accurate .22 for the money, and availability. thanx

Next stop for them is my Cooper Model 21 in .17 MkIV.

ANSCHUTZ.

I've got the 77/22 in 22 Magnum, it's my can't-miss squirrel slayer out to 150 yards. I won't go into the field without it.

Anyone with a 77/22 should consider sending it to Connecticut Precision for accurizing, he does great work and for not much $$. The package includes a target re-crown, machining the slop out of the two-piece bolt, trigger job, and adjust headspace to match your preferred rimfire ammo. My group sizes shrank 50% after he did my 77/22. I also floated the barrel and glass bedded the action myself.

I sent mine it shoot good but when I got it back it was a tack driver.it has embarrassed several Anschuts's.

How far down did you turn the muzzle at .750. Mine's turned down about 1 inch. Is that enough to fit the Houle Tube ?

Yes, should be right. Mine is 1 1/2" to also allow for the indexing ring. I would doublecheck the specs of the tube because it does have a max length allowance. I just don't recall what it is at this point. Even at your current 1", get the indexing ring. It will work. I'm using mine as a match prone rifle so I wanted a longer sight radius. Good luck with your project.

I went the cheaper route and bought the CZ 457 in .22 with the Manners stock. Tried some Eley, and SK and settled with SK Long Range, 3/8" group @50 yards very easily

Thanks for your reply. I'm using mine for a practice rifle also. I'm trying to mount a Warner#1 on a Stiller Lonestar action. Warner makes a top mount base, but I'm not sure if it will clear the
bolt release lever.
