Do I really need a fancy rimfire rifle?

In reality, Anschutz is no longer first or even second on the prone / 3-p world stage. They have been passed by Walther and Bleiker many years ago.
I don't really keep up with them and that's another issue. Anschutz is probably the most recognizable name of the three mentioned at least to the general shooter or shooters who have passed that point.. So, it appears the company has reached the "cash cow" phase of business development. Just making money on the name.

Wonder how long that phase will last for them.

Germany is hurting in pocket book.
VW Closing ,BMW in the States and SIG ???? What could be next ? Anschutz maybe .

CMP is finding lots of .22's these days

Recently, I purchased the Anschutz with thumbhole 1517 17HMR 18" barrel threaded for suppressor, at the range with CCI ammo, can put them in the same hole, it's incredible.
I shoot my CZ 455 w/16" suppressed barrel at those red devil squirrels in the back, what a hoot!

Production yes. If I'm buying new I can beat price and quality with custom. Lots of people talk about taper lapping on custom rifles. I wonder if they ever slug their new Anschutz barrels or taper lap them after purchase.. Not all, but a lot will allow the slug to basically rattle down the bore until it hits that last two-three inches where the knot is. It tightens up there and they may even slug that portion. Either way, they produce acceptable accuracy and better than most people have ever seen. So wow it's great! But it's not custom and generally won't perform that way. Trigger is great, action is well made, stock good. Barrel on consumer rifles generally not that good.

So how do they win world class matches. Stock cars are not stock and I bet you can't take one off the line in your new Chevy Camaro even though the body looks about the same.

Not saying they're bad, just overpriced.
I've slugged both of my Anschutz factory rifles and they actually slug very nicely. Best I can measure, the muzzle end is about .0002" tighter than the chamber end. Nothing's rattling down the bore either. These are both sporter barrels with no bulge at the end. The bore on each looks pretty nice too. They don't look like my Shilens but they're close and they're better than all of my other factory barrels from other manufacturers
