Actually....there are no stock width restrictions on LG either in IBS, Penn, and, if I am not mistaken...NBSRA.LG is limited to 17 pounds (600 & 1000 yard)
HG has no weight restrictions and I believe that any width forend is allowed. (600 & 1000 yard)
The IBS & NBRSA Have a rules (on-line at their web-sites) section that go into very detailed explanations of what is allowable for all the classes and varying competition disiplines.
In LG. Br. and Br. Imped. cases, In Heavy the 300 WSM. is tuff to beat jf the wind isn't wild use your LG. in heavy........ jim
I never owned a heavy gun, always used 17 lb. guns..... they work in heavy ok...... jim.....or when then wind is light take off the 300 WSM barrel and put your 6BRA barrel on your HG.
At Williamsport the two Dominant cartridges are 300 WSM and Dasher. The WSM would probably be the most dominate except some cant handle the recoil in a 17 pound gun. They are followed in popularity by the 6.5x47. The top 10 in aggregates are pretty dominated by the first two. Matt
In 6mm they work as well as a HG in the HG class. 17 lb 6mms beat much heavier HGs all the time. However, since I was building a 300 WSM already, all I needed was another bolt and the chamber another barrel so I can go both ways.I never owned a heavy gun, always used 17 lb. guns..... they work in heavy ok...... jim
I shy away from the 300 WSM, due to eye problems .... Light or no recoil is better...... jim
