Most Popular Chamberings for LG & HG @ 1,000yds

A 30 inch 1.450 weighs around 10 pounds, I believe. Add an action, a block, scope and You are close to 16 pounds. Stocks are usually 6 inches wide up front and 2 inches in the rear. They are usually longer, like 38 inches. Now add rails, front and rear and it starts to add up.

A few are fiberglass and some are wood and they usually add weight. Mine is a 6 inch by 2 inch thick plank of aluminum with a butt piece bolted on. It weighs 65 pounds. Matt
I’d be privileged to see some pictures of the rifle Sir.

I added a pic, but had to do it seperately because I didn't have one on my tablet where I posted from. Mattt
Thanks again- If the covid thing subsides, Im planning a trip to the area and one thing i will do is check out a competition at williamsport if i can work it out.

edit-- just saw the pic. thats quite a rifle - thanks

I have a few HG'S that are in the weight range of 85 LB. that most guys have a problem caring to the bench, the are 300 WSM's and still have one in 308 Baer that I my try some of these new Bullets in.
My LG's are 6mm Dasher and two 300 WSM's !

I was wondering if they have chain falls over the benches there-- LoL

Rattles the scope less
I’m not quite sold on the break thing quite yet. Not sure and can’t prove it, but I think that a clean break of the bullet and the barrel is extremely important. Without a break it is easy to confirm the powder (star that is seen on the end of the barrel) I don’t know if a break disrupts this clean “break”. Having the gasses escape equally around the boat tail in my mind is critical.

My best shooting Dasher has no break. I’m on the fence with this one.

I have not done in depth testing of brake vs no brake. I can think of really good guns either way, but most have no brake. But most dont get brakes so naturally there would be more exceptional rifles without them. I do know I made a scope move on the scope checker by shooting a .44 mag next to it. The concussion that comes off a brake could certainly make a scope move in my opinion.

I believe that. I have felt concussion on my face when everything was right. That has to hit the scope. Matt

Here are the winners of the Heavy gun 1000 yard aggregates at Williamsport for the years 2008 through 2019. We have about 60 to 70 shooter average through those years.

6 and 10 match group winners
300 WSM 16 times.
6 Dasher. 5 times
6TM. 3 times

6 and 10 match score winners
300 WSM. 14 times
6 Dasher. 4 times
7 SAUM. 2 times
300 Weatherby 2 times
30-330 Dakota. 2 times
This covers alot of years and a lot of guns. I didn't count 2020 becuase they only had 7 matches and down on shooter numbers because of Covid. Matt

In 2019, what was the difference in inches between #1-WSM and #2-Dasher. I believe it was .010” for 10 matches.
