So is that 6.5 twist?Haven't put a ton of rounds through the McGowan but so far, I'd say it's good to go.
I did one for a guy recently, this was for a bolt gun though.Got the last piece I need to build an 8.6 blackout.
.338 1:3 twist.
I figured since Festivus is right around the corner, we could argue about the unnecessary twist rate.

Not true. I have a cut rifled McGowen 16" x 1.2" straight 6.5 twist barrel screwed into a Zermatt Origin action and load/shoot 300gr Sierra's with an average velocity of 1,050 fps. I have had Zero issues stabilizing this load. (.338 TBAC Ultra suppressor installed).I did a little research since that cartridge is new to me as well as such a tight twist rate
and from what I gathered that is the twist needed for subsonic speeds
With Heavies
So I suppose the 1:3 covers every scenario and that's whats most commonly offered.
Many other people use like a 1:6 and choose their bullet accordingly for that
This is the kind of info I like but causes me to just "Not get" whats up with the 1:3 twist?I have a cut rifled McGowen 16" x 1.2" straight 6.5 twist barrel screwed into a Zermatt Origin action and load/shoot 300gr Sierra's with an average velocity of 1,050 fps. According to Berger

I didn't think guys your age wore wrist watches! Haha
That's my greasy shop watch lol
That's my greasy shop watch lolI was interested in an update on your build. How is the 1:6.5 twist performing? How is it doing expanding subsonic bullets?Mine are all bolt guns. I got a faxon 1:3 that I plan on using for a 338 arc. Best of both worlds? I'll find out.
