Lighter shooting bags to carry around

I wanted a new set of bags front and rear to carry while walking that don't weight as much as sand does. I came up with a light weight set of bags. I like to garden and use vermiculite to loosen up heavy soil. That stuff is like ground up Styrofoam and weights a lot less than sand by far. So I filled both bags with it. A lot less weight than sand. Very easy to carry around. If your a walking shooter like me try it a lot easier to carry and mine has hooks on the bags so I clip them on my belt loops and go walking...Hope this helps someone!!!!!

Back in the Bronze Age, I carried an old military ammo can with a sandbag for hunting ground hogs. I will use this contraption to shoot prone. It was marginally effective.

Then I evolved into a bipod, improvement for sure but limited my shot opportunities due to terrain restrictions.

Finally, I evolved to using cross sticks, the absolute best field shooting aid I ever used for someone who moves around a lot hunting different and difficult terrain where a prone shot or even a sitting shot is often not possible. When used in combination with a lightweight portable sportsmen's chair it elevates you off the ground far enough to see over most obstructions.

I never shoot prone any longer, but do shoot off the back of the truck using a bag or my walk around rig. I tried plastic beads and they worked okay but still had weight to them with a large bag. I went to Git-Lite. Git-Lite has several different types of fill. One very light weight fill has a spongy effect which I never cared for. A lot of bags that are purchased now gives the customer the option of using a standard fill or lite fill. I do a lot of walking through the prairie dog fields and always have a lite weight bag with me to use when needed.

Have you been able to shoot off them much seems like it would break down rather quick. I’ve been wanting to try something new for the same reason you’ve mentioned. Thanks for the advise.

Been acquiring some Armageddon bags for various purposes, a heavy fill and a lite fill in each version. The lite fill works great on some hunting sticks, and a tripod that I have set up for use on gophers, the heavy ones seem to be working well on the bench. Haven't tried the lite ones with a bipod yet, grass grew too quick this year..

People like to use corn cob and walnut tumbler medium. It's readily available, but not water proof, like the plastic beads might be.
