Let's see your lasers

Not yet. I know I "need" one. I know I want one. Haven't done the research on them to figure out what to get... or figure out where it fits in my shop.

You don't need a big one nor do you need an automatic for what we do. There always seems to be good used ones popping up. I have a basic older Boyer Shultz 612 right now and it does what a small shop needs to do. Footprint on one is much smaller than a mill or lathe. Mine is on a heavy roll-able base I made. Leveling bolts at the corners.

They are perfect for facing something on the lathe and finishing the opposite cut-off side on the grinder to length.

That would be nice. I'm keeping my yard sale eyes open for a small used one.... or a really nice small new one.

trust me, you'll be a lot happier with one long term if you know it's a dead nuts 1.2000 inches
I’m really not sure why these need to dead nuts…… a simple threaded ring with graduations around it will would certainly work.
Take your reading TDC L&R and you’ve got it forever….. you could cut .500 off the tennon and TDC will still be the same.

Doesn't have to be. It's just me. I like having a pretty precise measurement on them because I also use them to measure headspace (sometimes)

Exactly what I was saying. It's all relative to me. If I had a set I would just use my own numbers

The numbers would just be for clocking as far as my usages just knowing where to put the Engraving

ebay laser arrived today. Ordered November 5th and arrived December 1st - 27 days. Found some settings that worked on stainless and after adjusting focal length, I tried it out on a stub. Laser seems okay. I will say that the lead screw assembly is VERY cheaply made. It might be fine as long as treated very carefully. The bottom table is light metal and the threads are rough everywhere. It is stable. Did not come with glasses, Need to figure which to purchase. I didn't realize that EzCAD Lite doesn't run on a MAC. I had to dig out an old PC laptop and had some issues with a driver and with the stability of the program. Probably the laptop. The engraver comes with no instruction at all--none. EzCad seems to be set up on the USB but I am a little confused about the selection of laser. I set it to JPT but the original parameters had it set to something different-maybe IPG-YLP.

Knowing that we all like quality equipment this marker is very marginal. Here is a first cut at marking a barrel. All characters are just random.

The cutting on that stub looks good. So, would you do it again, or would you buy from the US supplier linked earlier. I have the ebay one link saved and it's very tempting based on the price
