JEEP Vehicles in Winter

I had a 77 CJ 5 if you had mud tires on it , it was a job keeping it going straight on snow and ice covered highways, no heat, but it was almost unstoppable in the mud, I used it in the oil fields, favorite tire was CO-OP grip spurs.

Irregardless of weather, a jeep is still a Jeep. It's no good in the shop. Lol! JMHO...great toys but not the most reliable option out there that will go in bad conditions. Pretty amazing what the newer vehicles can do with traction control, gyro stabilizing and anti-lock brakes...which is basically traction control in reverse. Either way, it can apply brake to the spinning wheel, etc. The gyro is great but not much fun. Hard to slide sideways on snow these days. It controls the braking/anti-lock brake system to keep ya going straight.

Gee, I owned Jeeps in the 70's and early 80's. They did work pretty well in the snow. I recently thought about getting a modern Jeep that looks like the old CJ-5 or CJ-7. But they want over $50k for a new one. I'll stick with my Subaru Outback.
I'm with you buddy. There are more Subaru Outbacks in Maine, NH and VT than any other vehicle. I own 2 and my GF just bought a new 2024 Outback. They are the balls in the snow. They must be official car of northern New England.

Son bought one 2 years ago ...Loves it.

I use my older one as a winter beater. Put 4 studded Nokian Hakkapelitta 9 tires on it and it's like a tank. Where my house is located you need something that goes thru anything.

Nobody told the Northeast. Three out of 4 cars at a traffic light are still made by Subaru up here.
i'll second that!!! i sold my 2500GMC HD and i ran Wrangler DuraTrax for an Outback with Goodyear Weathermasters winter all season and i wont go back!
1/3 the price and 3x the gas milage.
i drove through snow that would only embarass the truck!
last time at the dealer getting oil and differentail oil changed , i was bragging and super happy at how it goes.
he said that "X" mode rocks ?
Hmmmm.. i played along and never knew i even had it! lol.
hope it snows like "he double l" so i can get to try it!!! it laugh's at 15" snow
he said one guy said the only way he could get it stuck was get it airborne and land in a big drift. aka, hang it up.

i am eye the Wilderness , it needs to strip down the electronic BS and that come to a stop and shut off shit first.

Modern Jeeps are much more comfortable than in the past. But I'm gonna stay with the Subaru.

christmas eve and a true christmas story over a woodford reserve.

hope there is a Subaru in your stocking this year.

My brother has a Wrangler, around 100K on it, not sure of the year. Release bearing has gone out, front differential locked up going down the road. But that's about it. Rides rough, soft top noise and flapping drives me crazy, and you sit elbow to elbow in the front seats. No room in the back. But he has big tires on it and a rope wrapped around the front bumper as if he's ready to pull or be pulled. He never drives it off road, lives in Charleston SC and it has that "look" you need when you drive around downtown. I too had an 1972 IH Scout, 6cyl, no ac, but down right reliable. Turning radius was way inside a jeep. All you needed to face all mechanical problems was a good adjustable wrench, pliers, a screwdriver, and some wire.

Best things I ever drove in off road working here in the south was 3/4 ton 4x4 pickups with a locking differential. Best one I ever owned was a 1985 F250, 6.9L diesel 4x4.

No jeeps for me. All though the ones they made in the 60's with the little v6 were pretty snappy.

do all subarus come with a "coexist" sticker ?
My WRX does not. Though there are many that do.

My WRX with icepts will eat the average jeep every time when the roads go to to crap. (And it’s got 3 pedals)

If it gets too deep I use the Tahoe

I had a little suberu of some kind commit hairekaire on the front of my crew cab Chevy 3500 4x4 a few years ago. He succeeded in destroying his little piece of crap. I asked him what it looked like from behind the wheel, said his eyes were closed.

Not all Subaru’s are created coexisters!
This one has had more bullets shot out of it, off of it, taught more 13 year old badasses how to drive and work, maybe not spell
And the wife drove 270,000 miles of mud roads , and I never hooked a chain to her, I hope she lasts the range thru another generation of kids.

Some are just more tactical than others, lol
