It’s a shame to have to go to such great links to try to try to get your money back and to protect yourself and others from scammers or possible scammers like the guy who currently has a 204 Ruger Upper posted for sale. And let me say I ship a lot of gun and gun related parts and it’s hard for me to ship a rifle insured for anything less than $50-$60 but maybe it’s just because I live close to the east coast. I regularly ship rifles that cost closer or more than $100 than $50. Seems like a lot of my Rifles go to west of the Mississippi and it seems to cost much more past that point. So it wouldn’t shock me to have someone quote me +/- $40 to ship an upper to me with insurance.

Thank you Zack for the encouraging words, Gate City is great to work with that is why I have been with them for so many yrs.

Last week Thursday I agreed to purchase a gun related item on one of the for sale boards. I asked, do you want Postal money order or PayPal. He says PayPal and send me his info. I send him the funds the same day. I hadn't heard from him since last Thursday. So I sent him a PM yesterday and he responds today that he hasn't received any money. I take a screen shot of my PayPal account and send it to him. He missed spelled his email and the money went to someone else. Now I copied and pasted the email just like he sent it to me. I contacted PayPal and being its friends and family and a gun related item they said it out of there hands. It is there policy that firearms and anything related to them can't be bought using PayPal.

He says hes not going to argue with me, said yes it was his mistake ( I have all this in PM 's from him ). He is not out anything I'm out 298.71 and I did nothing wrong and says he is going to keep the product. That it is no longer for sale.

What can a person do??

Here is my take on this bs! I quit PayPal in 2002 after being hacked on eBay. PayPal had my banking info, so I closed my PP acct...PEROID! I’ve used USPS Money Orders mostly since. A little more trouble but no bank connection. Now I’m using BB&T cashier cks since they are more convenient and free. If you don’t like this..I’m done ! I consider them safer than the govt!

Everything that I said is the truth, I have all the PM's from him. I copied and pasted the PayPal address he gave me. I have a PM where he said I made a mistake and misspelled the address.

I talked to Gate City my bank and there treating it as fraud. They are a good banking system, and I believe I will get my money back. I didnt think about contacting my bank till someone said I should.

I know you will probably want to put this behind you, but please keep us up-to-date on what transpires with the bank. I hope it all works out in your favor.

Reading over all the posts in the thread gave me an idea.
The best way to maximize $$ from ads here is to use the "Time Share" method. I take money for an item from as many of you as possible. Once I feel the max number of participants is reached I will then draw up the schedule for which of you will have it for what weeks and who you will send it too when your time is up for the year. There will be a "small" fee paid, by each participant, to me monthly to cover administrative costs and maintenance.
Now, all I need to do is go downstairs and decide which upper I want to time share.

buyer sent pay pal payment to wrong address,
seller never got payment, why would seller ship item they never got paid for?

OP / 1lessdog won't post the sellers name ( forum code name ) and I'm not going looking for it.

Others have said the seller that never sent the item has been viewing this thread.

If I was the seller and I never got paid I wouldn't ship the item either.

Then again if I were the seller and was involved in this problem I would do all possible to resolve the issue with the buyer and paypal
If i were the seller and I am an honest person that is reading along on this thread i would certainly chime in with my side of the story.

The seller fuct up and caused the buyer to lose money. That's on HIM. If the wrong email was also on his PP account then he got paid and that's fraud

Contact your credit card company and not your bank unless they are one and the same.

That's not always foolproof. Another member sent money for a scope and got scammed. The address was a "hood" in Wilmington, Delaware. Another buyer on the africahunting forum sent over a thousand for a rifle. Same deal, it went to a public housing multi box setup. Lost his money.

Well it does help to understand how it works. If the OP and his seller really believed that PP would get paid twice if he used regular PP and included extra money for the fee then that's just misunderstanding how it works. Since he used a CC he should have recourse so there's that. I've heard that AE actually encourages people to file a chargeback so that they don't get stiffed if the account holder refuses to pay the charge.

I guess what I have learned from your misery @1lessdog, is that I would send the seller a small PayPal amount - like $.50 verify that he did receive it, then proceed with the sale.

For the life of me I will never understand a bunch of gun loving folks constantly using the most anti-gun, communist liberal democrat run outfit on this earth, to buy guns no less. You'd pretty much have to deal directly with Beto O'Rourke or Diane Fienstein to get someone that hates guns as much as the libtards at paypal.
