Believe the forum boss warned of not using PayPal on here or you will get booted.
I was aware of the PayPal problems but I missed the part of the Boss saying if you do, you will be "booted".

I remember seeing that as well. I also got scolded for speaking negatively about PayPal in a previous thread that was promptly shut down. I’m kind of surprised this thread is still running and that’s all I have to say about that.

Forum Boss: PayPal Friends & Family is NEVER to be used for sales of ANY goods and services. That applies to everything, not just here.

PayPal regular with FEES is OK for most sales, but NOT Guns and Ammunition and various undefined gun products. I don't think its wise to use PayPal for powder, primers, and bullets as that could be considered "ammunition".
Only for gun purchases I thought.

While I personally don't believe it is any of PayPal's business how I spend my money, so long as it is legal, I do understand and respect that it is their legal right to establish policies its users are compelled to follow. We all signed up for the service voluntarily. If we didn't read the policy, whose fault is that?

Likewise the Forum boss has every right to establish rules for the great marketplace he has created.

We all know the story of the baker who was COMPELLED to make a cake for something he didn't believe in and I am betting most of us sided with the baker. This is no different--just the other side of the coin.

Most rules should be interpreted by what they explicitly allow or dissalow. In this case firearms and ammo are explicitly prohibited. Other firearm parts and accessories are discretionary according to the policy, and, as such, represent a risk to both buyer and seller when using PayPal as settlement.

PayPal and the Forum Boss have been crystal clear about using Friends and Family. Buying or selling is not the intent of that program. Further, it is great that PayPal offers a no-cost mechanism to send money to friends and family. You would/will appreciate that if you need it. Even if you buy parts for $5000, you are only paying 3% or $150 for sending settlement instantly and securely. Credit card companies charge a similar fee. We think the vendor absorbs that fee but anyone in business knows the cost is passed on in part or whole to the customer.

For all of you writing checks, that's not nearly as secure as you might think. I've had checks, money orders and other important documents representing thousands of dollars in business lost by two well known package carriers. You'll spend hours at the bank getting a money order canceled.

Be smart about how you send or receive money. Consider the risks each payment method represents. Follow the rules that are spelled out in black and white. If you are going to take a risk on the grayer areas, do it with integrity. People like to be led. Tell them exactly what you want them to put in the notes field. Alternatively, you can send them a payment request. Always tell adults what to do rather than what not to do.

Be smart and careful out there,
Hank

I’ve said it for years and I’ll say it again. As soon as a Conservative party with money starts a version of paypal, FG, IG and the like they will experience a huge jump in membership and success, there are so many of waiting. Seems like everything is owned and operated by the far left, thats need to stop and there’s an opportunity waiting for the right party with a vision.

@nakneker: It would be a long row to hoe. Google, Amazon, Microsoft and the like own all of the big cloud service/provider platforms. They have shut down access to folks like Parler in the recent past just because they could and there is nothing anyone can do about that.

If that weren't bad enough, the on and off ramps to the Internet are owned by telecom companies like AT&T, Verizon and etc. who have expressed their political leanings.

So, even if you built your own datacenter to handle the volume at scale you could easily be denied access or reliable access to the Internet.

And, if you did manage to overcome that then you have the banks deal with They've also shown a willingness to deny loans and credit card processing for firearms-related businesses.

Most people have no idea how much is controlled or easily influenced by groups unfriendly to to the firearms industry and peripheral businesses.

The folks we all think should be watching out for this kind of imbalance have been very busy doing something else.

Great point, thanks for the insights. I think there are those that are trying to deal with these roadblocks. Hopefully they succeed, no need to discuss the details but I’ve been watching and reading and I hope it happens.

You never know whos pocketbook youre cheering for the loss of.
i thought the same thing. pension funds, mutual funds, individual investors... although paypal is in the wal-mart league (a company we all love to hate) and i personally booted them to the curb after reneging on a scam transaction 'guarantee' they were making money for lots of folks - if only indirectly.

@Forum Boss speaking of PayPal, is there a way to upgrade without using it?

Forum Boss: Yes, you can send money by check. Be sure to list the upgrade you want and list your Forum name.

This page explains how to mail funds by check. Click this link and follow the instructions for payment by check:

I just got off the phone with Pete of Pete’s Pillar’s. I had ordered a few CZ parts and had paid with Paypal on his site. Parts arrived last week with no issues.

Pete called today to tell me Paypal has now froze his account and will hold his funds for 6mo (and can liquidate) because he sells firearms parts! He still could refund the purchase so he did and I reordered using a Credit Card. He won’t ship but does get paid for his wares. Glad to help him out.

Paypal is NEVER an option for firearms related transactions even when a vendor says they take it, they can get caught and things go poorly.
If both parties agree to transfer funds using the non-commercial "Friends and Family" feature with "NO COMMENTS" ... then it's just two buddies swapping money. The problem occurs when somebody writes "Eotech Scope for Barrett MRAD", or "224 Valkyrie AR-15", or something definitively gun-related that all the alarms trigger. I use PayPal all the time, but make absolutely certain the buyer uses "F&F / No-Comments", and understands why I do that. Also ... I ALWAYS transfer immediately and NEVER keep a balance in my PayPal account, so that if something goes wrong, they freeze $0 and I don't care. I think their firearms policy sucks too, but instead of boycotting, I've chosen to exploit them and work around their anti-gun policies. No matter how you slice it, PayPal is still the easiest and least "hackable" way to transfer money ... IF you do it right.

So, it's OK to screw PayPal out of a few $$$ by using "Friends and Family" BUT, when they turn around and get YOU, you squeal??
When PayPal wanted my bank account # attached to my account for direct deposit, that's when I told them to MITE ME!!. Besides PayPal in sloooow loading so I just use a credit card. I stopped selling misc stuff on Ebay so I didn't have to deal with any of them. ;)

For general information about PayPal and other transaction providing software systems:

There are numerous ways to get around the system, steal and skim. Thousands or perhaps millions of people engage in that daily. Most think they are very clever if not just smarter than the rest because they just thought of it.

Every mature software system like retail and hospitality Point of Sale, banking and finance and online has fraud detection built in. And guess what? They thought about it, analyzed incalculable iterations of it and war-gamed it billions of times to protect against it long before any of the ‘new’ users engaged in those fraudulent acts. No one is fooling anyone and no one is being fooled. It just hasn’t caught up with all the abusers yet…

Be careful what you do on-line. It is auditable.

Make sure you can stand in front of a judge and explain what you said, wrote or did and have him/her nod and say “That sounds reasonable.”

We are all a family here. Our long-term success depends on each one of us doing the right thing(s). This gives our community a good reputation. It works both ways. If you join this community then you are bestowed with that good reputation. We all have to work individually, however, to maintain the high standards by which we all want to be known.

People in general. NOT directed at you personally.
Folks think they're pulling a fast one, bypassing fees by using Friends and Family. Then, when it's time to pay the piper, (fees) they squeal. (payback time)
