I don’t know for sure but I believe they only ship it here a couple times a year, people are so pissed off at Alliant and Hogdon that there throwing it in there gardens vowing to never pay them ridiculous prices ever again!… re stocking there shelves with VV that $5-$10 a lb cheaper right now. Sooooo…… here’s what’s gonna happen….. most will buy small quantities of vv to try new loads….. oh wow VV N555 shoots as well in my 6.5 can do anything creedmoor! As that evil H4350 that’s $10 a lb more than N555,… now I’m gonna stockpile N555…… you think your the only shooter that just figured this out?… NO!… everyone just did now the entire shipload just sold in three days!… you can bet your ass the next shipload in VV is not gonna be $45 a lb anymore!… rant over!…

I agree, that most certainly will happen. That’s why I’m buying 8lb jugs of the stuff right now, enough for the rest of my life (~25 yrs) so I never do this again. I probably have close to that supply already, but I don’t ever want to ration my shooting. I’m speaking to you guys about it because I honestly feel that the regular membership here are probably some of the top and most experienced shooters in the country. In other words, get em while they’re hot Boys, cuz the storm is a comin.

I have been searching for n140 lately, no luck. with everyone switching to vv it will become impossible to find and this will drive prices up like the others. I am afraid we are our worst enemy.

This all may be true, but then why is it that VV powders are still relatively (I stress relatively ) cheap?

There may be several reasons.

Finland may be less reliant on Russian energy imports being way, way north of Europe's main oil and LNG ports and the pipeline terminals from Russia to the west. For historical reasons, the Finns also distrust, in many cases hate, Russia, and they have very good cause to distrust and fear the current regime in Moscow. So, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Finland deliberately avoided reliance on Russian energy supplies unlike most of the rest of Europe, especially Germany. It may also be far more energy self-reliant than the rest of Europe - there are some Finns on the forum, and they'll no doubt know.

Second, Vihtavuori appears to still have production capacity to serve the handloading and sporting cartridge markets despite the continent-wide increase in military demand . Alliant on the other hand receives its powders from Eurenco Bofors in Sweden, and Nitrochemie Wimmis in Switzerland, the latter half owned by the huge German/Swiss RUAG combine which makes most of Europe's military ammunition (as well as GECO and RWS sporting brands). Both of these powder companies are working flat out on military orders and powder supplies from both have virtually dried up to other customers, just dribs and drabs appearing, presumably to keep their distribution and sales networks and brand awareness barely alive. (This also applies to Norma brand powder grades which are 100% Bofors manufactured.) The resulting ammunition outputs are by no means all going to Ukraine - many European nations are finally building up weapons and ammunition stocks thanks to the Russian threat. Much is being soaked up by a huge expansion by the Swedish military and Bofors/Norma are Swedish companies even if part of European multinationals.

Finally, with capacity still available, Viht may have taken a marketing decision to ramp up production to the maximum, but keep prices down in order to build market share. If they have, they are being very wise IMHO. Other makes are seeing their brand reputations, dealer networks, market shares destroyed. (Isn't that what this topic is about, ie saying I've used Alliant grades for years, but won't be going back to them even when things improve?) Viht has a golden opportunity here to win a large share of the world's largest shooting market the USA, especially after its parent company's (Nammo) substantial investment in the USA pre-Ukraine in Berger and (finally!) a comprehensive and apparently efficient marketing, distribution and sales organisation in the form of Capstone Precision with a new purpose built computer, warehousing and distribution facility in Minnesota.

You know it's funny. Just yesterday, I was thinking about how we've all been trained since we were little kids to accept this gradual decline. Not only of our wealth, but our infrastructure. Moral decline is just considered being the more "modern" . And anyone who takes a stand morally against any issue is just "old-fashioned" . It's old-fashioned to believe that Americans should make all their own products. It's old fashioned to work with your hands. It's old-fashioned to keep your guns at home, and leave others alone in the world. Honestly, in a lot of ways I don't recognize this place anymore. It's a new place. Something twisted from the old place. A pile of bones.
True that!!

Nice explanation Laurie, thank you

Hopefully in this coming election, the extremely "blue" counties in the swing states won't be fabricating ballots for their candidates.

Unfortunately the current regime won't let us drill.

Oh, they drilled alright. We got cng going to Germany right now from that pipeline they built from the North Sea they built when no one was looking. Now they are sending Oklahoma and Texas NG to Europe. My company built the field heat exchangers.
