I’m done with Alliant

All these price increases take the fun out of building a new rifle too. Something like a 7PRC that takes 67 grains of powder, it does make you consider the cost now.

I'm making lots of 223, 22 Creed, and 22br barrels. Next will be the 22 GT.

People are definitely choosing cartridges based on availability of components. Especially if they're trying to get started. People who were previously using the big boomers are now looking at much smaller cartridges to see if they will get what they need to get done.

When people call me and are talking about a new build I tell them I would look at components first. Do you have the components? If you don't have the components what components are available? Yes, the veteran shooters certainly don't do this because they're probably very well supplied. But then again a lot of the veteran shooters are completely unaware of actually what's going on out in the world. Since they are so well supplied, they have no actual knowledge of the extreme shortages that are actually happening.

No joke, people really need to understand that it's a distinct possibility that reloading components will not exist in another 5 years. These companies have been taken over and turned into a giant monopoly, and they can turn that switch off anytime they want to do it. And they have plenty of other customers to sell their product to. People really need to understand that

Governments pay with other people's money. So, they don't care what it costs.
Well, other than various taxes, I can’t see how the US Government is involved with this what I consider price gouging. Sure they are happy it helps their agenda but I see this as no different than what every business in the USA has been doing since the alleged Covid. Covid was/is a convenient excuse to continually raise prices. I am not a ‘fan’ of the government but I see this as many businesses making huge profits. It will soon not be at my expense.
Indecently, they the government has no problem paying with other peoples money, they have no problem paying with other people’s lives.

A couple of days ago I posted a thread about my stock of 8208 getting low and asked for advice on which VV powder might be a good replacement. The initial responses were N-135, so I ordered an 8 pounder from Graf & Sons. Came to roughly $320 with tax and hazmat. Free shipping cause I gave a review on a previous order. Still at least $100 cheaper than Varget, 4350, 4895, etc. When 8208 finally becomes available again I’m sure that I won’t be paying what they charge for it. I think that free shipping for posting a review at Graf’s is kinda cool.

I was at my LGS last week and they got a shipment in of reloader 16. $69.99 a pound. I’m not blaming them, they have to make a buck also but at $70 a pound + tax, I’m out. I will be 63 in June. If my calculations are correct, I should have enough target components, barrels etc. to last for the matches that I shoot until I’m 75 possibly 80 years of age. Enough hunting components for the generation after me at least. If I run out I will just gracefully fade away. I’ve had a great run since the early 70s. My son, and definitely my grandson will not get to enjoy the opportunities in the shooting community that I have. Sad.

As long as theirs conflicts around the world the powder situation won't get any better.
Why would they spend the money and resources to bottle up 1lb or 8lb containers
when you could sell pallet loads to governments, plus a lot of them have contracts
that have to be fulfilled first.
Alliant or the parent company doesn't give a rats ass about us.
Same with bullets, primers and brass.
That's why you see more Hornady bullets and Vihtavuori powder and others. Guessing they never
signed on to government contracts.
It's better than it was a year or two ago. If a couple of bottles of power came up it
would be gone in seconds.
Look at Berger bullets, you can get quite a few different ones now.

Feel the same way about Alliant powders. I've been in the process over the last 16 months of purging my powder supply of Alliant Just about there and when there no plans of ever going back. Vit powders are good powders with a large burn rate variety that handles all cartridges. JMO

That’s the interesting part. Finding new customers is not easy. Eventually you’ll price yourself out of business. There are other sports people will gravitate towards.
Polo will not be one of them.
And as much as I have enjoyed this shooting sport for more than half a century, I will not be taken advantage of by gouging businesses. From the manufacturers to the shippers to the suppliers. Seems they are all, for the moment, are making unheard of profits.
I totally agree with you!

I got one of the original 8 pounders of Reloder 16 when it hit the
market. $169 !!! H-4350 went away during that time period for
awhile, and R-16 jumped up to $189, and I bought another jug.
Of those 2 jugs. I have 4 pounds left and will buy no more since
it's way over $400 bucks now.

I’ve been switching over to a lot of VV powders. Partly price, partly performance. I’m sure Vihtavouri will raise their price too but I’m grateful as for now they have not. I’ve been adding to my stash of VV for the last year or more. I still have quite a bit of alliance and H powders but I haven’t adding to those brands for awhile now.

I left Hodgdon and Alliant a year ago when the writing was on the wall. I've used VV for years and now exclusively. My cabinet has been purged of both of them. I wont be changing my mind. I dont like corporate greed and monopolies
Ya monopolies are not good. VV is owned by Namo which also owns Lapua, and Berger...

Last year had a new rifle I wanted to try reloader 17 in but it was non existing. I ended up giving accurate 2700 a try because it was also listed and I ve never tried it. I have been very happy with it accuracy and es has been good and it sells for a reasonable price in today's world. Also most shops that sell reloading supplys have accurate powder on there shelves.
