I’m done with Alliant

A look back to the "The Way It Was".

When I first started reloading rifle eons ago, Dupont IMR powders dominated a lot of the reloading world. Even with the limited selection of powders they offered back then, it covered everything I could ever hope to need and then some.

In those days I reloaded strictly for the 243 Win. IMR 4064 (80 grain bullets) and IMR 4530 (100 grain bullets) did everything I needed it to do.

When I added the great 222 Rem to my rifle cabinet (in those days we had cabinets, not safes), IMR 4198 with 50 grain Sierra bullets shot ridiculously small groups out a Remington 700 sporter rifle. No ground hog, crow, or fox had a chance against that load if the shooter did his part.

Going up the ladder to the great 30 06, IMR 4350 with 165 grain bullets would shoot bug holes. I felt like I could take on a dinosaur with that powerful load. However, I am glad I never had to test that belief. As I ventured into other rifle calibers, there seem to always be an IMR powder that filled the need quite nicely.

Anyway, the point I am trying make and probably doing it very badly is that with the zillions of powders on the market today, I am not surprised by the shortages in trying to keep production up to supply all these powders. I know there are other issues affecting the supply chain but if we went back to simpler approaches to reloading, I don't think we would have near the problem we have now with supply. I mean, how many powders do we need?

Last year had a new rifle I wanted to try reloader 17 in but it was non existing. I ended up giving accurate 2700 a try because it was also listed and I ve never tried it. I have been very happy with it accuracy and es has been good and it sells for a reasonable price in today's world. Also most shops that sell reloading supplys have accurate powder on there shelves.
This is the next one making the jump. Scheels in Missoula has had AA powders on the shelves pretty regular for awhile now up until a few weeks ago they were mostly $34 to 36$ A pound. Today they are all over $40 and up to $45 for 4350. With a store’s overhead and limited availability the good old days are behind us. Throw in there the value of the dollar and prices on everything are going no where but up.

We have been governed by the party for "little guy" the last 3 years. What have they done, flushed trillions in taxpayer fake money into endless "infrastructure" programs that only grow government and increase inflation. More government and inflation hurt the lower/middle income the hardest, currently they are paving the way to take your 401k and other assets(again). They know there CANNOT be an armed middle-class, ask any marxist/fascist or communist.

Accurate powders is part of Hodgdon.

You know it's funny. Just yesterday, I was thinking about how we've all been trained since we were little kids to accept this gradual decline. Not only of our wealth, but our infrastructure. Moral decline is just considered being the more "modern" . And anyone who takes a stand morally against any issue is just "old-fashioned" . It's old-fashioned to believe that Americans should make all their own products. It's old fashioned to work with your hands. It's old-fashioned to keep your guns at home, and leave others alone in the world. Honestly, in a lot of ways I don't recognize this place anymore. It's a new place. Something twisted from the old place. A pile of bones.
Reminds me of an inscription on a 6,000 year old Egyptian tomb:

"We live in a decaying age. Young people no longer respect their parents. They are rude and impatient. They frequently inhabit taverns and have no self-control."

In so many ways, things don't change as much as we think. ;) It's easy to see that in the Bible passages as well.

Thanks for the reminder on the 2700 powder. Brownell’s has a sale on it, plus I could use a promo code.

Reluctantly, I have realized that the price of Powder, as well as everything else,!has been skyrocketing. Why though, does it seem that Alliant powders are so much more than everyone else’s? Is it greed for profit? I now find myself switching to Vitahvouri powders, which I would have never foreseen. They went from being the most expensive, to the cheapest! Lol. Honestly, in my 40 years of reloading, I have never used these powders, but I have always heard wonderful things about them, so I must say I am looking forward to using them and working up new loads. Oh well, I guess in life we must pivot from time to time. I guess it keeps things interesting? (Glass half full way of thinking).
Good move. I am swapping over to VV as well. I find it cleaner burning and so far reaching app. the same speeds as with the Hodgdon. Accuracy is great so far.
