If You were going to build a Hotrod, What Caliber would it be

347 SBF
195 AFR Renegade heads
Fairly heavy custom grind bump stick.
Holley Systemax ii
1 3/4 primary bbk headers.
complemented with the full host of the rest of countless other goodies that make it a reliable still with full creature comforts ride. Definitely hard on tires and citations. Full Hot Rod power Tour last year just over 3k in 8 days plus a few trips to Ridgway and one to Detroit.

Now I want to go 351 Windsor based to in the 400+ ci range. !

Not really sorry for the thread derailment either. I’ve been drinking.

About 50 years ago I got derailed for 3 days buy some drinking, (well, quite a bit of drinking) and a little red head nick named Rex. I was deploying in 4 days and the day I shipped out I found out that she was getting married that week end to someone else!

Probably best I had work to do!

OP, I definitely appreciate the "need for speed." I've been shooting varmints for over 40 years. My first true varmint rifle was a 22-250 and use the 220 Swift a lot these days. I have killed ground hogs, prairie dogs, foxes, etc. with those two and the 6mmAI, 240 WBY, 257 WBY, 7MM STW and a few slower ones.
The trend these days are the higher BC VLD bullets and with good reason for extreme ranges but for under 500 yards I still like the fast-moving varmint bullets and the explosive effect that they bring to the table.
Speed sells and I'm buying! They make new barrels every day, life is short.
Good shooting
I also have a 25-300 Wby that really shoots Sierra 100 Gr Spitzer. I tried the 75 gr, just wouldnt shoot them very good.

I have a Remington 700 long action. And looking to build a speed demon. What would you build?

I like shooting light bullets so will not go with a fast twist barrel.

I have these calibers already

22-250
22-250 AI
220 Swift
22-6MM AI
6 MM
6 MM AI
260 Rem
260 Rem AI
6.5 X 284
25-26 Nosler. I'll loan you my reamer.

6 Rem AI-Zero Freebore
26" Shilen 14 Twist
AA2700-very cool burning powder
Win 760 second choice
70g Nosler ballistic tips at 4100
80g Sierra blitz boat tail at 3800-R#19

Friend was shooting chucks with the same style reamer with 60g Sierras at 4400 in Oregon. He said that this load made chucks explode like paint balls hitting a flat rock.

22-6 Rem AI
80g A max
3650 and not full length size
3800 max
Retumbo and 215's

30/338 lapua with a 14 twist and a full case of retumbo with a 135 or 150 bullet!

Looking at what you have only way I see of going faster is to bump up in case size.
The 220 Redline should give the speed your after, if I recall correctly, maybe with not a full tilt load?
There is some info on it, which may save some wear and tear initially.

I initially thought 22-284, that is so close to the 22-6mmAI I don’t see any gain to be had. Maybe a longer tube rig?

I have a 224 Clark in the works, waiting on some parts to finish up. I may PM you and chat on that subject.

The original post states Remington long action, is it 308 bolt face or magnum? I had a factory Howa in .257 Weathby that shot way better than I would have expected it to. If I were building something I'd lean this way.

A .22 SLR or a 22 TTH would be great, relatively simple options. They are plenty overbore enough. Between the two, I’d opt for the 22 TTH, although your brass choices will be somewhat limited compared to .243 based wildcats.

His 22-6mmAI is pretty much a 22TTH AI.

But he already has a 22-6mmAI so going to just a straight 22-6mm aka TTH would be going backwards.

Not pretty much, that's exactly what it would be. Kind of like some of the other wildcat cartridges out there it would have been to easy to call it a 22-6mm. Instead, they had to come up with a not so clever boutique name like Texas Trophy Hunter aka TTH. I guess 22-6mm was just to generic and boring. lol

Very true, I forgot he already had one

Time for me to pull out Ackley’s books and propose another 3 or 4 obscure wildcats
