If You were going to build a Hotrod, What Caliber would it be

The best all round varmint rifle I ever wore out was 6MM Rem AI, 1-12 shooting 80 gr. FB bullets. Works well out to 800 yds. The most fun is a 17-224 Wby. 30 gr bullets @3400. Good to about 500 yds.
Dave, what velocity was you obtaining with the 6MM AI with the 80g bullets..could possibly be a good round for those longer shots on Roe Deer.

Labradar stops reading at 3900. I did a 10 shot ladder/pressure test with 75gr v-max/h4350 in my 25-06AI and it stopped reading velocity after the 4th shot.

My normal hunting load is a 100gr barnes at 3570fps.

I had a 6-06AI at one time I just like the 25 better for a fast long action.

195 AFR Renegade heads
Fairly heavy custom grind bump stick.
Holley Systemax ii
1 3/4 primary bbk headers.
complemented with the full host of the rest of countless other goodies that make it a reliable still with full creature comforts ride. Definitely hard on tires and citations. Full Hot Rod power Tour last year just over 3k in 8 days plus a few trips to Ridgway and one to Detroit.

Now I want to go 351 Windsor based to in the 400+ ci range. !

Not really sorry for the thread derailment either. I’ve been drinking.

I shoot Sierra Blitzking 55 gr at just over 4100 fps in my 6 MM AI with 13.5 twist
A 6-284 with powders like RL17 and a 26in barrel you could probably get the Nosler 55's up around 4300 - 4300+ depending on how hard you wanted to stand on the gas. Nosler bullets are generally a little tougher construction and can take more abuse before they go poof so they'd be a bullet I'd try.

Your family should be real proud of you.

OP, I definitely appreciate the "need for speed." I've been shooting varmints for over 40 years. My first true varmint rifle was a 22-250 and use the 220 Swift a lot these days. I have killed ground hogs, prairie dogs, foxes, etc. with those two and the 6mmAI, 240 WBY, 257 WBY, 7MM STW and a few slower ones.
The trend these days are the higher BC VLD bullets and with good reason for extreme ranges but for under 500 yards I still like the fast-moving varmint bullets and the explosive effect that they bring to the table.
Speed sells and I'm buying! They make new barrels every day, life is short.
Good shooting

Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
