Ummm, no... it's often not.

Oft once the "learning curve" peaks the disposable income part gets re-evaluated, which makes life simpler going forward: the ratio between 'must have' and 'need' becomes less one-sided.

There's no going back though! Few successfully kick the habit.

Sniper - You might also want to take a look at these items. Probably the most accurate way to produce ammo. What all the bench rest guys use.

Thats good info too. I have redding dies for most everything... I may need to get into that get up though.... how much of a difference does it make going from a redding type s micrometer die set to one of these wilson press dies?

I agree on the LE Wilson stuff. The bullet seaters are amazing, they seat bullets as close to perfect as I have seen.
I use this press,

I use the LE Wilson neck sizing die, with this same anvil press.

A whole handful of neck bushings, to set your neck tension to whatever you desire, depending on neck wall thickness.
I use a Redding Body sizer, to size the brass and bump the shoulders .001" before neck sizing.

It takes a few minutes more to load rounds than traditional style dies, but the reloads are perfect everytime.

I'm not sure it hurts anything or not but its kinda ugly. SAAMI max cartridge for 22-250/250 Savage is .4668" at the base, 243/308 family is .4703", and all the Norma headstamp 6XC brass I ever bought, and the dies size to .470ish, 22-250 brass starts out at .466ish. So that little section around the case head never touches the chamber even after multiple firings, leaves a little 'line' or 'bulge'.

I didn't realize before reading your post that there was a difference. So I just got thinking about it and measured a bunch of Lapua 22-250 brass that I have been using for 6XC. The base Diameter on new Norma 6XC brass and new unfired Lapua 22-250 brass both measure .470". The measurement just above the rim is smaller on the 22-250 brass, at .466ish, but after on firing in the 6XC chamber it is the same as the base, approx. .470"
I cannot see any type of bulge on my 22-250/6XC brass.
Not arguing, this is just my observations with the brass I have used.

Fire306-

Apparently that is of Lapua's doing, SAAMI 22-250 spec is different, all my non-Lapua brass isn't .470 closer to .467. they may have done that on purpose, it can be body sized down, virgin Win 22-250 was closer to .466 for me.

Well found out why- Lapua follows CIP (Euro) specs, CIP max cartridge dimensions for the case head of a 22-250 (measurement 'R1') is .472" versus SAAMI's max cartridge of .4668".

All cartridge max/chamber min specs for common rounds are at www.saami.org and www.cicp-bobp.org

For some reason I didn't even consider a 22-250 would be THAT much different from SAAMI to CIP. There's our answer to the oddball head dimensions encountered. note that SAAMI is .200" from the base, CIP is max, but there's still a considerable difference.

so are we saying here lapua 22-250 brass would actually fireform perfect given the different euro deminsions?

I can't personally confirm it as I have no lapua or Norma 22-250, but it looks like several here can.
