How to Lower Powder and Primer Prices?

Hodgdon do not own Alliant but they do have an agreement to distribute Alliant powders. Alliant is owned by Vista Outdoors group. So there still are four different ownerships, not three.
But, that's exactly what urbanrifleman said.

Could you say more about what you mean by 'hoarding'?
:D :D more than you really need for the next year. All depends on your current usage, if you use 8#'s every month then you need a minimum of 6 to 12 - 8# kegs of powder to keep going for 6 month to a year maybe more. OR if hard to find example H4198 maybe you want to buy as much as possible since it will take years to get back into stock with a normal economy.

At one point I had well over 50,000 primers, started selling off some since my shooting slowed down from 5000 rounds per year (10 years worth) to now maybe 1000 primers per year. Yes I was a hoarder.

I now have enough powder for roughly 17000 rounds which makes me a hoarder based on my shooting.:oops:

Quality PCP air rifle. No primer cost, No powder cost. My 22 caliber FX Panthera likes pellets out to 50 yards for target and close in varmints, and I have killed a Rockchuck at 82 yards with a 40gr H&N hollow point slug with one shot. I can just wait them out. Pellets, four to seven cents per, slugs twelve to fifteen cents per.

At times I wonder which is the reloaders worst enemy; the shooting industry or the Democrats...?

No, he said three ownerships, not four which the OP correctly had stated.

Hogdon sets the price and distributes the powder. Which is what I meant to say. My apologies.

So,to me, that's all that matters.

Hogdon doesn't make powder. But they do package it and control the product. And for other lines they simply distribute and set the price.

Alliant doesn't manufacture powders either. They simply package powders from manufacturers, same as Hodgdon. Then they give that to Hodgdon to price, distribute, and sell.

I'm pretty sure the same is true for Winchester. Hogdon is the distributor. Western also.

So that being the case, aside from VV and Shooters World, every other powder is sold and distributed by Hogdon. Which would explain why VV prices have never changed but the whole rest of the market changed pretty drastically.

I have'nt followed it in a while but that Czech group may now be
pulling the strings on Alliant powders. Have to follow the paper trail
a bit better, I guess. Either way......Don't shoot anything Hodgdon or
Hodgdon controlled any more.

Honestly, it wouldn't matter. The distributor for Alliant is Hodgdon. They set the price.

Unless the people that bought Vista take back exclusive distributor control of Alliant powders from Hodgdon, then Hodgdon has ultimate control of the price of Alliant powders.
