I'm not real familiar with the 700. Most of my experience is with AR's.
My own Remington 700 in 223Rem. Since new it has never been able to eject fired cases. It will eject loaded rounds no problem. When the bolt is cycled with a fired case, the extractor will pull the case out of the chamber no problem, and the case will stay with the bolt, rim under the extractor, right up until the case mouth clears the barrel tenon and pops into the bolt raceway. Then, the case head will disengage from the extractor and the case is left lying on top of the magazine. Every single time.
Is there a fix for this that's known? On another board some guy was saying the extractors are bad, all of them, for years, and even a new one is probably going to be problematic. Is it worth it to try a new one, or will I likely be wasting 30 bucks (incl. shipping)?
How about a Sako style extractor? Will this mod maybe fix the issue? Any problems associated with this...it looks like to me the Sako extractor will change the angle of ejection. Will I have the ejected cases bouncing off my windage turret and back into the action like on my 788?
I'd like to get this thing sorted out over the winter.
