How many use Broughton barrels?

I need to get a couple barrels and thinking of ordering and trying out 1 of his barrels. I really do not see his barrels on the forums come up for sale often or much spoken about them. Who is using them and what are your opinions?

Thanks,
Dan

Dan, I have 3 Broughton's in 22 and 6MM calibers. I think they are one of the best barrels out there. My 6 Dasher 1000 yard rifle sports a Broughton and am coming up on 900 rounds fired thru it. Barrel still shoots as good as new and very easy to clean up. Try one in a 5C configuration and you won't be sorry.. Call them and ask for Tim North.

They are among the best made Dan. They give up nothing to cut rifled barrels, and is simply a matter of personal preference.

Two weeks ago I was over at my gunsmith to have my rifle re-barreled with a Bartlein. I noticed 3 Broughton barrels there, and I asked him about them. He said that he likes them because they have a much better finish and shoot as well as other top barrels.

Regards,

Joe

Howdy !

My Broughton 6mm 29" 1-8 Palma taper'ed " 5-C " is hyper accurate; and cleans w/o having to use a bore brush.

I'll go Broughton, again !

The 2 broughton bbl. I had shot the best out of all the bbls I have had. I had them first then tried others and when these bbls are done I will be going back to Broughton. Cleaned easy and broke in fast. Very nice!

I have one in 6.5 5C rifling with 1000 rounds on it.

One of the best barrels I have.

Seems to have less throat erosion than others.

WOW i love those responses. I just met a fellow the other day a couple hours from me and bought a XR100 rifle that he had bought new and shot a couple rounds through it. He sent it to Bob Green and had him redoe the comeplete rifle with the works and had a Broughton HV chambered in 6ppc 262 neck built out of it in a 14 twist. The rifle is unfired new and came with a custom seater made from same reamer and full length neck die that Bob made for the gun. You name it and it had it done to it. Even the front bottom of stock about 8 inches back was milled out flat to ride the bags. I do not bench rest shoot but wanted something to paper shoot some and take to some fields to shoot varmints. I just bought a new Bat Tactical action again from Wolf Precision but this is a single shot. I have been longing for a 6mmbr since i had sold my Kelbly built rifle some years ago. I want to buy 2 barrels for it and do 2 different calibers. I swore up and down i would not full with the single shot actions anymore for varmint hunting after i sold off a bunch of them over the years but the days of wanting to have a couple are coming back again. ;D :o

You won't regret your decision by going with Broughton. I have the 5C and also 3 groove barrels. Personally, I prefer the 3 groove.

Could you tell me what the differance or why you would select 1 with 3 grooves or 1 with more grooves in a barrel?
I honestly believe the 3 groove cleans up much easier than the canted land rifling, and also doesn't distort the bullet jacket nearly as much. I realize the 5C and 5R type rifling is supposed to offer some type of velocity increase, but, I don't believe it's enough to make a noticeable difference. A good barrel, is a good barrel, whether a certain number of grooves, odd or even, or canted lands. Again, my personal preference is the odd number 3 groove.

Last Broughton I had was a 300 Win Mag. It was a great shooter. It was made by Harold Broughton, so that was a few years ago!

AMEN to that! Great barrels.

Another Broughton fan here. My last few have been good ones, as have a friend of mine who must have a dozen of them by now. Ours are mainly 6mm, 6.5, and 7mm, though my friend might have others. Ours are for F class, Fly shoots and 1000yd BR

I've used two, they dont shoot any better , or worse, than the Brux ,Benchmark,Krieger,Bartelein, Rock Creek or PacNor's that Ive used.
Anymore its like asking how many lands and grooves work best.
