Barrels 2020

What goes around, comes around. Back in my youth, Douglas
and Hart shot side by side. Then Shillen came along. I got older
and cut rifle barrels became the rage, I got even older and going
back with Hart for the newest project.
My latest 300 NMI project wears a Hart barrel. The hand lapping finish on my Hart under the scope is the nicest I have ever seen from any manufacturer. Don’t know if that will make it shoot any better than my Krieger, Brux and other barrels but the Hart sure looks dang good!

I’ve got a handful of benchmarks, bartlein and KS arms barrels. They all shoot super. I own 5 benchmarks that all hammer! All my benchmarks are easy to tune and easy to stay in tune. The ks is super easy to clean, and super accurate barrels! I’d be happy sticking with KS barrels for sure.
Can we get KS arms barrels in the us?

There’s no real way to answer the eternal “Who makes the best barrel” question. To do so objectively would require multiple barrels in all the calibers offered. All chambered the same using the same reamer (impossible) all shot from the same receiver in a controlled environment and would have to be fired via machine. Now, add to that factors such as components used for testing, and probably a bunch of other things that don’t come to mind right at this moment and you will find there’s a staggering number of variables to control. This would be a mountain of work and at the end of the day, still probably wouldn’t answer the question.

The trouble with even asking this question is you get fan bois who have one of something and since they have it; it’s the best! The problem with winners lists is if everyone is shooting the exact same barrel, how would anyone else ever be able to break into that?

I’m not too sure, I live in Canada. I’m sure you can. Be worth a look, there barrels are awesome. Quick turn around, great finish, super accurate, easy to clean. Most have been pretty quick. Mine is average, and my other is still being chambered

The winners have stacks of every brand barrel. They dont use ones that dont shoot and dont shoot a certain brand because theyre not on an equipment list.

I've never heard the stacks of every brand of barrel part before, they must have a garage full of them. I should have been more specific, but for the average shooter like me who isn't sponsored that question is still valid, and I doubt, answerable without taking out a second mortgage on the house and having lots more time available to test such things.

Gotta be ready at any time

I've had great results with Hart, Krieger, Broughton and Bartlein. I currently have three exceptional barrels, a 6.5 x 47L Bartlein, 6.5x47L Kreiger and a 6brBroughton. The next project will be on a .30 cal. Hawk Hill that was available.
I have also had outstanding results with several Broughton .338 barrels

I just received an Osprey Barrel Works barrel from Patriot Valley Arms. They have been getting rave reviews in the long range and PRS community. Button rifled in 416RR.

Mine is a 6BR prefit for American Rifle Company actions. I'm looking forward to putting it through its paces.

My compass lake is a krieger. They also offered a wilson and that was the only 2 choices on a full match rifle
What a pity ( Canadian ) Rob Mclennon sold his barrel making buisness . You could have gray hair if and when you were on his list. In just a few turns on his lathe he could tell you about the quality of the steel. Those of us in the Eastern region could verify their accuracy in SR bench rest . As Mr. Wheeler explained... if you do your part !

Good morning Dusty;
I am a bit surprised . Didn't know others outside of the "Eastern region" had them. This gentleman walks softly but carries a big stick. He also has made his own actions plus some for a few others I had the pleasure of shooting with, mostly the Canadian shooters I used to hang with. Pete Smith has at least one world record and maybe another... at "Holton " range while I was there competing several years back. My first two were "buttoned " 6 groove. He switched over to the "cut" ones later. I never had one from him I was not happy with. I too used a Panda from "97". When I bought it new from "George" in Phonix at a world shoot, it came with a Hart barrel. It was truly a hummer. I was new, didn't know anything about tuning... and it still put them all in the same place using a certain batch of 8208. ( I think it was the same batch that "Krupa" always looked for. Had I known how good it was, I would have bought a keg of it when " RON" wanted to sell me one.

Back when i got those barrels i was a SE region shooter that traveled nationwide. Everything seemed easier back then
