Hornady One Shot

Can someone explain what the circular rings on the case are? I'm assuming it's not pending case head separation.

I ended up getting those same rings with redding S dies and Hornady one shot.

They went away the next time I sized my brass
Looks to my like the copper oxide film got rubbed off. No problem. Find out how to prevent it. I use a light viscosity petroleum oil to lube cases. Very little effort to size 6BR & 6BRX cases. No marks on the cases.

keep your dies clean with One Shooter. I just started using it Per F Class John's Vid...I love it use the spray and shake method in a zip loc bag...spray bag insde then spray cases also when in bag then shake and rub between hands. very silky smooth resizing...then I wipe with acetone kinda burns though

Thanks for the info. So there isn't a long term issue with the brass? After shooting and then washing my brass those lines went away.

I use the Hornady One Shot aerosol and get those types of marks all the time. It is not an issue with the brass integrity, just some discoloration at the surface. The Hornady One Shot has always worked great for me, but I seriously soak the outside of the cases down with it before re-sizing. In fact, I apply it so generously that afterward, I remove it by rinsing the cases several times for a few minutes each time in a bucket with the same hot water/Dawn/Lemishine mix I use to wash them initially in a tumbler with SS pins. Two or three rinses with hot water to remove any remaining detergent/Lemishine, and then into the case dryer they go. The secondary wash to remove the One Shot Lube does not seem to remove the discoloration. However, once the cases have been fired and run through a sub sequent cleaning step with SS pins, those marks are completely gone. I have never noticed any issues whatsoever from the circumferential surface discoloration on the brass as shown in your picture. If the appearance bothers you, perhaps tumbling in walnut shell medium (or similar) might help remove the discoloration. I only care how the loaded rounds shoot, not how they look, so I've never worried about it.

Thanks, guys. In being perfectly honest, ( this was mentioned by a member) I went from Imperial to the One Shot. Maybe that was part of the problem. So, I am going to do something I rarely do...Clean the inside of the die. I used to clean my dies religiously but just quit for some reason.

I have an old dark room developing pan that I lube my brass in. Lay the brass in the pan, hit it with One Shot, roll the brass, hit it some more. Make sure it's all coated and give it a minute for the aerosol part (alcohol) to dry off.
One Shot has done well for me since I discovered (and corrected the issue) just how closely the Case Lube and the Gun Cleaner the two cans look.
The Gun Cleaner ain't worth S$&t for lubing brass.

In over 40 years of reloading, I've only ever stuck one case and that was with One Shot. The only thing I'll ever use it for now is to lube the ram on my press.

Ditto. I actually squeegie some Imperial on a lube pad and roll my brass across. As in everything Imperial, a little dab will do ya',

I have had issues with brass getting stuck with the one shot for some reason lately. I just went back to imperial
A whole lot of guys love the one shot... I can't say because I went with imperial years ago and it just never runs out.... Dies get all kinds of gunk in them no matter what you use and no matter how clean you think they are over time... A good cleaning and a little lube in the die as a pre-lube and it works wonders.... Just remember it only takes a small amount of imperial to do the job.... I am also guilty of not cleaning my dies enough... Since I have had heat stroke a bunch and live in Central Texas so I am stuck inside the next 3 months at least this will be a good time to do all of them....

I had issues with a new redding and whidden bushing die and both were cleaned before use. I was all about the one shot for a while but I have had 4 stuck cases and all were with the one shot. I have never stuck a case with imperial so that's why I went back

Hmmmm , maybe they changed the formula.... Everytime you find something good something happens... I used to love gunslick foaming bore cleaner , it worked so well for me and of course they stopped making it... You can't really go wrong with the imperial wax plus it last a very very long time....

......but it’s a dry heat! I’m in the east now.90 degrees and 90% humidity.

I have been using "One Shot" for a few years and have never had this happen. Instructions on using the lube were followed. Guess which three cases were "One Shot and which were Imperial Lube. I'll be taking the die apart today and check for gunk. Don't know what else to do. The Imperial Lube cases show just a tiny bit of circular mark. Do you think it's the die>
I read this several years ago and have found it to work great. 1 part 100% Lanolin liquid to 10 parts of 99% Isopropyl alcohol. Put in a pump sprayer and shake. I put my brass in a on old pan and lightly spray over them, then stir them up. Inexpensive too!

Yep, just like F class John stated...if you have used your die with other lube and then do the One Shot, there is a good chance of sticking a case. This issue is in the direction on the One Shot...also after you clean your die it is also recommended to spray some One Shot into the die...the directions further say to allow the One Shot to dry for a minute on the casings before using. Have used One Shot exclusively now for several years and with several cartridges and no stuck cases. Being as we are males, I know it is hard on our ego to go ahead and read the directions but sometimes we probably should.o_O
Another thing I have used One Shot for is a release agent when bedding an action...works slicker than snot.

I have used one shot since it came out. You just need to understand how to use it and FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. I used it on everything from 17 khornet to 375 cheytac with no issues. The only stuck case I ever had was long before one shot came out and it was a 300 win mag and rcbs lube and pad. Simple case of not using enough. One shot is the same way make sure you use enough and FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS and it works great.

FWIW - the primary solvent used in the Hornady One Shut Case Lube (aerosol) is n-hexane, suggesting the dissolved components (i.e. "proprietary mixture") are quite non-polar/hydrophobic:

As I mentioned previously, I really drench the cases in One Shot prior to re-sizing. However, using a large amount of the One Shot lube like that also causes significant buildup on and around the bushing inside the sizing die. This will gum up and cause problems if you don't remove it regularly. Having learned the hard way, I now clean the die with every use. Commonly-used organic solvents such as acetone or short-chain alcohols (EtOH, MeOH) are too polar to dissolve the components of the "proprietary mixture". They just cause it to gum up into an even worse mess. I use mineral spirits to clean the die/bushing and it seems to work very well. There are probably a few other readily available non-polar solvents that would work equally well. It may seem like a PITA to have to clean the die/bushing with every use, but once you do it a few times and it becomes part of your routine, it's not a big deal.

Plain old lip balm works well, little on the neck and the body gtg. FL sizing(without the expander) doesn't require a lot of lube. Just keep the stuff off the shoulders and keep vent holes clean.
