Hornady One Shot

I've been reloading for over 55 years, loading thousands of rounds. My one and only stuck case was with One Shot. I learned my lesson, and never used it again. Maybe just my bad luck, but I'll never use it again.

After following this thread for a while, I decided to give Imperial a try. I have used the RCBS lube and pad for nearly 60 years without ever sticking a case, but it is messy. I had tried a couple of the spray lubes and Lee's paste but always came back to the pad. When my can of Imperial arrived I was set.

I decided to try it first on my .22-250 cases. They always seem a bit tight, so I was interested in seeing if there would be a difference in sizing effort. I faithfully cleaned the dies before using the Imperial and lubed up half a dozen cases. Wiping my hands on a paper towel and checking that my die was seated properly, I picked up a case and placed it in the shell-holder and worked the ram...and promptly stuck the first case I have ever had stick! Ready to throw the can of Imperial out the window and turning the air blue with X-rated invective, I suddenly realized I had picked up the ONLY case on my bench that had not been lubed. Add that to a squeaky clean die and disaster was pretty much guaranteed. The case was so well and truly stuck that the die was a loss. Kroil, freezing, vice-grips and heavy hammers didn't budge that case.

When my new die arrived yesterday, I decided to try again. Thoroughly cleaning the die and inserting an Imperial lubed case, I lowered the ram handle and, surprise, the case sized with much less effort than I had previously had to use. Maybe it was the lube, maybe the original die was a bit tight...time will tell, but I got the rest of the cases sized without issue.

Moral of the story? Just having Imperial on the bench isn't enough. You have to use it too! It also helps to be a little better organized.

Been using nothing but coconut oil for the last couple of years.

Coconut oil is something like 80% saturated fat. You're going to give your cases heart attacks...

Actually, I find that pretty interesting (more so since I have a decent sized tub of it sitting in the garage.)
