I have 3 quarter bore rifles.. and depending on what case your would like to use", also what speed and bullet you will desire!.
I have 257 Robert's Ackley, awesome case second to none. 9twist Douglass barrel
A 250 savage Ackley , that is in the same criteria of the Ackley Bob! Different speed with the heavy bullets..8.5 twist Brux barrel
A .25 grendel just neck down 6.5 grendel...
And out of all them... (the .25 grendel is the most pleasant shooting rifle) and capable of them all.
120 grn noslers at 2790 fps.
All bolt action... 7.7 twist bartlien barrel.

Once this one gets built I will have 3 as well:

- 25/06 & 25/06AI barrels for a Savage 1:7t on the AI
- 257 QPC (modified Ackley Bob) 1:7.5t Bartlein at 3120-3160fps with the BJ 131 or Berger 135 LRHT
- 25x47L with 1:7.5t Brux, hopefully reaching mid 2800s with the 135 LRHT @ 26”

I will likely be pulling the QPC barrel off in the next 2-300 rds and replacing it with a .284 Win or .284 Wheeler. The chamber is slightly oversized for the WW brass and the cases only last 3-4 firings. I only get 1-2 firings after full forming. My reamers was made for RP brass, but I can’t seem to get any more of it

Blank arrived at 29” I think I’ll have my smith try for 27.5” on this one. Since the rest of the rifle will be a bit lighter than I would normally go for a PRS setup, the extra barrel weight will be fine. I can just move the barricade stop forward some to account for the balance point.

I am about to put together a 25/204 which mimics the 257 Kimber loading data

87's at 3000-hopefully

100's at 2850-hopefully

Next will be the 25-22/250 AI(250 Savage AI)

Already have the 257 Roberts AI and 257 Weatherby with .030 freebore

I just got my new JGS reamer for 250 savage Ackley. With a .900 freebore will use a brux 8.5 twist barrel on a used Howa 1500 SA.
Was specially made for the 120 weight class.
Got an inexpensive Boyd's stock and waiting on my sightron SIII to get here.
My older 250 savage AI had a super short leade plus the barrel is toasted. Look like my driveway through my borescope .:)

So I decided to get my own reamer made!

...waiting on my Smith to give the OK!.

What you guys think?...my older 250 savage is built on a marlin x7 SA. This time i wanted a drop out magazine. Hence the Howa SA.
The Howa will make a fine rifle. They are super common internationally with good success. Decent aftermarket support too (better than Savage, anyway). Deciding factor will be the barrel, as always.

I think he went with the 25-47L.
This is correct. But I only have the barrel and reamer currently. Plan is to build on another Defiance action so I can swap barrels with my current rifle, meaning I can have the barrel made and headspaced on my current action. Black Friday deals may allow for sourcing of a couple more items, like a chassis and mags (hopefully)

Is your barrel 1:8.5tw or 1:7.5tw?

I ask because there were two Brux 1:7.5tw on Blackjacks website recently. Someone snagged the Rem Vmt contour before me, so I just bought another Hvy Vmt profile. Ended up being a good thing because I think a Proof CF prefit will be a better way to go for keeping weight down in the Hunter series.

Brux 1n8.5 was a special order through BRUX website.

You might take a slight BC hit, but the 8.5 may not be too bad for the 130 class bullets. The 250AI being so close to 25CM, you should be able to run 2950-3000 with the 131/135. That should still be fairly stable from your barrel

My next 25 caliber build will be with a 1:8, maybe a 1:7.5 twist barrel.
The mono bullet makers are coming out with some neat stuff, but my 1:10s just won't shoot them. I'm stuck with 90gr or less.

I have 9twist on my 257Bob Ackley and it barely stabilizes 115 Berger and nosler 120 noslers.
At 500+ yards. Maybe is the barrel" thus the reason for the 1n8.5 twist on the 250 Ackley
The Bob wont wear out any time soon as I dont shoot it much.
But my .25 grendel gets shot every weekend and that sure is a dandy little rifle very economical and reaches the enough speed to drive the 120's
And that 7.7 twist sure hell works.

Something sounds off on the Ackley Bob barrel. A 1:9t should have no problem stabilizing the 115s. The 120s don’t even require as fast of a twist as the 115s, so that makes it even more odd. I wonder if having your barrel recrowned would fix any erratic behavior.
